Hi, is there a downside about living next to wetlands? Let's say a distance from a property next to wetlands is around 30 feet. What if I live on upper level floor in a condo (no flooding issues). Thanks.

But not hordes, and not huge, just...bugs. Probably balanced out by the open space as a neighbor. Good birdwatching too.

If the wetlands are actually on your property, and you want to build a barn, or addition to the house or ? Then you will pay thousands of dollars in permits and fees to discover what impact you may or may not have on the defined area and mostlikely will not be able to develop the property the way you wish.
They also can get smelly when stagnate. freedom |

Ya, there's a lot of regulations surrounding most wetlands...I'm pretty sure there are some use restrictions as well on some (all?) of them, aside from the building problems.

Not in Oregon. Oregon snakes prefer dry, rocky areas. Gators just freeze to death.
Wetlands are nice, as long as they belong to someone else. You don't want to own them yourself. |

Other than mosquitos and the stagnate water stink, I'd be afraid of sinking. Unstable ground.

actually it is a condominum on the top floor. so i don't own the land. it is very close to the wetlands. but it is a whole building. and it were to sink, wouldn't a governemnt forbid from building there in the first place?

well....you'd think...but.........
Seashelly brought up another good (well, BAD i guess!!) point. Is the stink. Wetlands are pretty to look at now and again, and a pretty cool field trip, but personally, i wouldnt want to live right by some. Top floor or not. The bugs being my biggest turn off, the smell the second. But of course, that doesnt bother everyone....and there can be some interesting wildlife living there that would be neat to observe....unless most were chased out by the invasion of the building.. Best of luck on your choice. Tiffany |
