I don't know about that but Oh My @ the lower parking lot restrooms at Haceta Head Lighthouse. P-U!! A warm, late Sunday afternoon during peak tourist season I'm sure didn't help much either. I'd be concerned about auto fumes in Florence. The traffic was constant, but that's tourist season and that's the smell of $$.

The bears have kind of a musty, woodsy aroma with subtle hints of blackberries and raw meat.

Unless they have run into a skunk by a pulp mill.

No coastal pulp mills anymore. At least not on the part of the coast I frequint. Skunks smell the same there as anywhere. And bears, well there are a lot of bears. And many live right in the city.

I've lived in the Coast Range in an area with lots of Black bears. They are very shy. I doubt that you will ever got close enough to a bear to smell him.

If you are going to worry, worry about the porcupines. It costs some serious money to take your dog to the vet to get porcupine quills removed from his nose.

I don't think I have ever seen one (Porcupine) in Florence, but I hit a bear downtown. Another one by Honeyman, and saw three during rhody last year just above oldtown about 3 blocks from where highway 126 comes in to US 101
