Thanks for those responses! Yes, I kinda know that bears don't smell good; I was concerned about their proximity to people. >> Knowing what you know, would you move to Florence Oregon or somewhere else? Why? I no longer drive so a smallish locale is my preference, preferably west of the Mississippi.

That makes no sense at all. If you no longer drive, you should be looking for a city with a reliable and extensive public transit system like Portland. Being marooned in a small town without a car is one of the worst livability handicaps I can imagine.

Same here, and medical needs are almost non existent in many small communities.

I wouldn't live in Florence because my sister lives there.

Florence does have a decent hospital and is very walkable if you choose your location carefully (they have a large Fred Meyer). Here are their transportation options: http://www.ci.florence.or.us/communi...ation-Florence

I don't agree with walkable. A good part of the residential areas are remote to downtown without sidewalks. And Fred Myers is barely even in the city.

But they do have a good hospital right in the better part of the residential area, and Freddy's has everything you could want. The Downtown is upscale with a lot of food choices, and very walkable.

Sorry about your sister.
