The main purpose of this forum is not to make people living in all parts of Oregon feel special, but to provide information to people who are thinking of relocating.

What Oregonians call Southern Oregon is only a small part of southern Oregon.

It seems that even Oregonians can't decide exactly what Southern Oregon is. Somebody from another state would never guess and would assume that Southern Oregon is anywhere in the southern part of the state.

I can see replies to requests for information now: "Why are you asking about Brookings" or "Why are you asking about Frenchglen in this forum? This is the Southern Oregon forum!!"

Having a Southern Oregon forum would only add confusion.

Well, then. Instead of it being called "Southern Oregon," it can be "Rogue Valley." That's a pretty large area and would benefit many instead of hunting through pages and pages in the general forum section.

In the Retirement Forum, the topic of health and insurance was so popular that many people requested it become a subforum. I think the key was the numbers. In any case, the first step would be, is to follow the rules as shown in the Admin Zone Forum.

I do think SW Oregon is unique. I'd include the Umpqua and perhaps Klamath Basins too. We tend to have unique climate and different origins. Most S. Oregonians are from California and other places. The Oregon Trail did not end here, but the Gold Rush did leave an influence, as did the back to the land movements of the 70s, and the retirement tsunami rolling north daily. I don't think the exact boundaries are so important as a general sense of community. Whether you live in K'Falls, Medford, G. Pass, Roseburg, or Brookings, you feel different from the north...and east parts of the state.

Default Southern Oregon Area

I for one would like to hear from folks that live in or have lived in around the Shady Cove area? Weather, seasons, overall climate! Are there weather extremes like I have to live with here in Missouri?

What is typical demeanor of its residence and any cultural things to do there and so on...
I'm considering relocating to that area.
Kindest regards,
