I doubt there will be a compromise on this bill. Environmental groups have the President's ear and they are adamantly opposed to this bill.

The bill IS a compromise. It locks up 1.2 million acres of O&C lands in a conservation easement. That's not enough for the tree huggers. They want it all, and they want all logging to stop.

Our County Judge is in DC trying to save PILT (payments in lieu of taxes). Everyone is going to the government for more money. I want some.

I wonder what it is going to take for these tree huggers to realize that doing nothing with our forest is not a good management plan. Old growth forest are very poor habitat from most animals, they're only good for ferns and mushrooms, even the trees make very poor lumber. Mother nature has a way of managing forest and the out come isn't that pretty.

A well managed forest allows of younger healthy trees to flourish, it opens up the forest canopy and provides for better wildlife habitat.
