Thank you very much for the specific and detailed info, it gives me a lot better information about living there. It is sad, to me, that so many beautiful farming and ranching areas are being converted to dwelling spaces. One day we will wish we had all that ag land back again. I understand the economics of how it got that way...but wish it were not so. P.S. Thanks for not pointing out all my silly typos--like calling Myrtle Point "eastern" Oregon. I hale from the other side of the Rocky mtns and get it mixed up from time to time.

For anyone wanting to know about Myrtle Point I grew up there and can give you alot of information since most of my family lives there. The weather is great it does not freeze very often and I think it might have snowed 2 times in my life. Summers are great in the 80's and we don't get as much fog and clouds as the coast.
But the community is small and everyone knows everyone else! If you have children I would not recommend it since there is nothing to do in the area. When I was in school we had a big problem with alcohol and now they have a problem with pot, so does Coquille. If the kids are not in sports there is nothing else to do.

I'm considering relocating to a place with better air quality than what Eugene has with its weekly grass burning in the summer and excess smoke from wood firs in the winter. Do you have any thoughts or comments on what oregonlightning said about the air quality/inversion and no burn rules? I'm wondering what happens in the winter when wood fire smoke accumulates and if this makes breathing difficult outdoors for those with respiratory issues. Also do you know if there are good places for walking - good paths, appropriate roads of any distance and safe from traffic? Would Coos Bay or Coquille be a better choice? Thanks!

Hi,
You answered many of my questions before I ask them! I've found a place on Broadbent that I'm thinking of buying, waiting for pictures. I stayed in the area a lot as a kid, but that was a looong time ago. Can you tell me what the average summer temps are? This has alway been one of my favorite places in the world. Ang craft associations in the area? How far is it to a shopping mall? What's the medical availability - my dad who is moving with me, is 89, will turn 90 in July. Thanks for your help.
Melissa
