Hello there.

What kinds of personalities and lifestyles in general fit the best in Oregon?

And which do not or not at all?

Or for Portland and towns outside of it?

This is such a broad (and odd) question that you aren't going to get many answers. Oregonian are not a uniform set of people. You can find urbanites, suburbanites and.. lol, ruralites. But that just describes where people live, not what they are like.

In general, Oregonians like the outdoors and outdoor activities. Dress tends to be casual. People are friendly but maybe slightly more reserved than other places. High pressure, in-your-face attitudes are less common. Beyond that there isn't really a "type."

Although we are not really representative of the state in general, just read through the various posts here and you can see that we're not all alike (except maybe that none of us like posts which are basically "You Oregonians are...").

To be successful and survive in Oregon you MUST subscribe to "Group Think".

If you have a rare thought or an independent idea, keep your mouth shut and you will do just fine.

There are very nice people there and it is very congenial UNLESS you have a confrontational idea.

Something real serious, like... "Do you Fly fish, or use Bait?", "Do you buy Les Schwab tires?", "Have you every gone to a church?" or "Do you like the beach or the mtns?" It is best not to bring up such complex and argumentative topics.!

There are some exceptions (usually transplants who have not yet been chastised.)

Oregon has everything from the Ku Klux Klan to an LDS Temple. The people run the gamut from Cowboy to true Hippie. The mantra should be "Oregon has Everything".

Not really true among most of my friends or people I associate with, many if no most of whom were all raised in Oregon or the NW(and many of whom are fairly well travelled in addition to that). Though I'm most likely younger and not hanging out with the same crowd as you might associate with.

But CityData is the place to paint everything with as broad a brush as possible.

Intelligent tolerant liberal Democrats who fly rainbow flags are most welcome!

Hateful ignorant Republicans are best to live elsewhere.

Can agree with most of this post but not "High pressure, in-your-face attitudes are less common." I would say they are more common than in other states. There is also truth in the "group think" comment from another poster, especially if you have any tendency to voice your opinions or get involved in things.

That isn't true.

In the big metro areas, Democrats hold a majority. In the smaller cities, it closer to a pretty even split. In the very rural areas, Republicans hold a majority. Hence the state is predominantly blue, since, of the state's nearly 3.8 million people, more than 3 million live in the cities/metropolitan statistical areas. More than half of Oregon's entire population lives in the Portland metro area alone, which is heavily blue.

I can not tell you why I know the exact numbers as that would violate the TOS, but ...

Outside of Portland Oregon, Conservatives outnumber Liberals and Progressives.
