Six counties east of the Cascade Mountains voted in favor of Measure 49 (Union, Umatilla, Deshuttes, Jefferson, Wasco and Wheeler Counties).

Default old boys and macho neglect of services

Oregon's beautiful but the countryside seems to be run by old boys' networks, with corrupt regulators, sloppy inspections, lack of regulations, and above all a lack of necessary public services. I live in one of the very few rural counties in Oregon with some sort of (very limited) public transit in-county, but getting intercounty or rural-urban transit can be impossible. Further, the countryside zoning and property laws, other than to protect farm use, are pretty much nonexistent--nothing, for instance, to stop a neighbor who wants to rent out to loud vacationers or block a property-value-affecting scenic view.

How is measure 37 dead? It was voted in, was it repealed?
