Hello,
My boyfriend and I are looking into moving to Medford to escape the high cost of rent in Ashland. We both have jobs so that isn't a problem. Yesterday we looked (and kinda fell in love with) a townhouse that is only a few blocks from downtown on N. Ivy Street. I do not know enough about Medford to know how safe the area is. I have looked online at some of the crime websites and I know that East Medford is safer, but it seems like all of Medford has some crime issues. I need to know if my boyfriend and I will be safe living in that area.

Your best bet is to go down to the police department and talk to them. The police department has the online "crime mapper" website tool than you can use to pull up the area. In the first 5 months of the year, they have reported about three incidents in the area, but it is impossible to know how serious they were. One of them, for instance, is "Fraud" - what does that actually mean?

Certainly there are parts of Medford with much higher numbers of incidents. How serious and how it would affect your definition of "safe," I can't say. I've walked through the area during the day and it certainly looks quiet enough. Alba Park doesn't have that bad of a reputation, not like Union Park to the southwest.

Edit: Hmm, I might have to take that back. From 2008
