there should be adequate $100k craftsmen in very remote towns on the east side. People are very friendly, helpful and Sociable,(this is not usually the case in Western OR). You can even ride your ATV to get the mail and groceries, and not worry about some cell phone talking SUV driver bumping you off. But do watch out for the semi trucks, tractors, and combines.

try Condon, Mitchell, Heppner, Dayville. Take a week and explore the remote areas, you may fall in love...some of the downtowns are very nostalgic, and some really nice brick buildings with the beveled corners and doors.

There are nice streams running through some towns, but buy something high enough to avoid a flash flood.

Jobs might be a little tough and low paid, but you won't be stuck in some office cube with an earpiece and keyboard growing from your body; and some 30 something 'cocky' manager waiting to axe you at your next eval. They used to call themselves "The Career Busters" I don't miss that life one bit.

Don't expect to find a job in any of these places, though. And if you're a social animal, the loneliness might drive you nuts. It's wonderful in these places, but very isolated.
