Ten miles to coast-Coo Bay, Toledo or ?
Things I like about Toledo:
Ten miles to coast, out of worst coastal winds and mountain freezes, small community with swimming pool, interest in arts, northern Oregon, close enough to Portland airport.
Things I like about Coos Bay: bigger community, out of worst coastal winds and mountain freezes, good prices and access to lovely areas, not pretentious and could walk to a grocery store.
Can anyone point me in the direction of similar places close to the coast, especially north of Coos Bay, even much farther north?
I am 50ish and would be "starting over" but want a quieter life. I don't mind two lane roads but am not crazy about traffic noise.

Astoria would seem to fit your criteria. I've never lived there but am friends with a couple who very much enjoy it and I find it a fun place to visit. It has a great old historic downtown and many nice victorian-era homes and IMO has one of the best panramic views on the coast from the hill-top city park and from the many old hillside homes and streets of the town. Be prepared for rain!!!! Astoria gets 80-inches a year and anywhere with 20-miles of the Oregon Coast is going to get at least 65-80 inches of rain a year.

coos bay or toledo?
I am still considering the decision--I never have rushed into things.
Some posters say the Newport area is overrun with tourists in the summer.
Some posters have been a bit down on Coos Bay economy or community.
I thought I'd consider whatever else there was that seemed similar.

I live just north in North Bend. It connects to Coos Bay. If you go some miles further north you'll hit Reedsport along the 101. Reedsport is small but a bit less expensive most of time. If you had a place to live away from the 101 it would be quiet. There's not as many tourists there. I should mention that it's got a lot of older people and not many jobs. However as a retirement place it would be alright.
