Saying and doing have always been the downfall of this group.

And the Feds did not say that. They said they were looking at ways to enforce the law and until they had direction from the AG they would step back so the enforcement was decisive.

As to 2016 I believe Mr Pickering is referring to the impending election of a republican president, which along with a GOP lead house and Senate will take their tea party on a state by state tour, because they want less government unless it is in regards to sex or drugs.

What I believe Mr Pickering is forgetting is that despite the GOPs best efforts you cannot (yet) gerrymander presidential elections... Well not much. We could go off and talk about how the electoral college skews elections to rural states, but I don't want to go down that path here. Last election 1.5 million more people voted for democratic congressman than for republican congressman. Now on a state level (and thus congressional) you can gerrymander that away. But on a national level it gets a lot harder. That and we democrats have a secret weapon: the RNC. Anyone who makes it through the primary process will have to swear fealty to so many right wing groups that there is no way they will be able to race to the center fast enough to win the general election. My guess is that we will see a Dem President, along with a narrow dem majority in the house and a GOP senate. Not exactly the recipie for a new campaign in the drug war, especially not against pot smokers.

The group is registered voters who plan on voting this year... not young people, not pot smokers.... REGISTERED VOTERS WHO PLAN ON VOTING THIS YEAR. The poll includes seniors and church members!

Not a surprise, you are wrong again.

The AG already gave them direction and it is to not enforce prohibition in states where it has been made legal under state law.

Unlike you, I will provide proof to back up my statement:

USA Today -- Justice Dept. won't challenge state marijuana laws

Quote:
The Justice Department will not attempt to challenge state laws that allow for the medical and recreational use of marijuana as long as the drug sales do not conflict with eight new federal enforcement priorities.
Quote:
Although the directive issued by Attorney General Eric Holder will apply nationwide, it will largely affect the 20 states and the District of Columbia that allow for medical marijuana use, and Colorado and Washington where state laws allow medical and recreational use by adults.
Look at the bold part.

That AG is gone.

And you are referring to Medical Marijuana, not Recreational. The Feds have said when they have a clearly defined plan they will enforce Federal law when it comes to Recreational drug use.

Doesn't change anything. They got their directive. It won't be challenged, it would be political suicide for the next AG to reverse it. The majority of American adults think it should be legal NATIONWIDE.

Uh, read the article. Or even the quotes I posted before you make comments on them. It VERY CLEARLY says medical AND recreational.

Moderator cut: snip

Anyway, I really don't see the feds strapping on their jackboots anytime soon; they could have done that years ago because medweed's been legal in some areas under a Republican president.

Quote:
The distribution of marijuana to minors.
Directing revenue from marijuana sales to gangs and cartels.
Diverting marijuana from states where it is legal to other states where there are no laws allowing for marijuana use.
Using legal sales as cover for trafficking operations.
Using violence and or firearms in marijuana cultivation and distribution.
Driving under the influence of marijuana.
Growing marijuana on public lands.
Possessing marijuana or using on federal property.
All those things are illegal under state law in the states where it has been legalized anyway.

(And that doesn't mean that the feds will go back to enforcing prohibition if those policies are violated, they will enforce those 8 policies if they are violated.)
