Default hillbillies look out

I am sure if you look hard enough you will find some one who complains about outsiders... but it will take a while...

Oregon is populated with californians and others who moved here in the last generation or two. You will be hard pressed to find anyone who can say that there grandparrents are from here. Our circle of friends consists of couples from, LA, Chicago, London, Australia, Seatle, Bend, NEw York, Texas and about 6 couples from oregon but none of whom had perents born here.

You will find people complain about the california attitude. But I am guessing that they are compaining about what makes you want to leave in the first place. If you do not bring your traffic, bad driving habits and beg city attitudes (people in small towns like to have people respond when they say hello on the street).

ALso you will find that the restruants and shops are great! Fewer peole to stand in line with and better service. Take UrbanMinx, a small boutique in Ashand - the english born owner and her californian manager run a wonderful store loaded with the latest desginer fashion from all over the world - if this shop was in LA, they probably would not let me in but as it is, I am welcomed on a first name basis In fact, I have been in there when californians have ask them to open in california... but all they get is " you can buy online at www.urbanminx.com"

S o you may find that you are not only welcomed but that you fit right in!

Hey Samantha P, I just had to pop in on this one.
My Grandparents moved to Ontario Oregon in 1934. All of their kids were then born there, and went all the way through school there. Both my Grandparents died there within the last 2 years. My Dad has never lived outside Oregon,(except a short stint in the army) and neither of my Aunts have ever even lived outside of the Ontario area. Almost all my cousins live there or close to there too. My Grandmother on my moms side was born and raised in McMinnville and Forest Grove. Met my grandfather there, and my mom was born just outskirts of McMinnville. . My brother was born here, and lived here all his life, Im the oddball, I was born in Washington, my mom went there for a few months when my dad was stationed there for basic training or someting like that. ANyhow, we moved back to Ore. before i was 4months old, and ive lived here ever since. My husbands Grandparents were born/raised here in Coos Bay, his Aunt has never left, she lives 2houses up from us. lol and his mom never left Ore. - just went up to Florence. Husband was born here in Ore. as were all our kids. - sooooo long drawn out story noone is truly interested in, but just wanted to let ya know, ya, some of us can trace back through Grandparents living here in Oregon. Kinda cool eh?

Portlandfamily is on a distinguished road
We moved to Portland two and a half years ago from the mid-atlantic region for my husbands job. Overall we have positive things to say about our time in Oregon, however, we are ready to leave.

We have seen some great things while here and visited as many places as we could. The state is beautiful in many areas. There is always something to do and overall people are nice. When we first moved here we noticed how polite store clerks were, etc.

However, we have not made many close friends despite trying to. We do not know our neighbors past a quick wave across the street. If we were out front cutting the grass etc. and a neighbor walked by they did not even say hello most times. We are not loud, we do not have loud children or loud pets. We have found that most people are a bit clique and prefer to keep to themselves and their circle of friends.

People here complain about people commenting on how our lives were in such and such state and how the beaches are different etc. etc. Well, that's our point of reference. You can prefer your cooler beaches and love it. I can prefer my hot, flat beach and it's ok. When somone comments on how it was where they lived and how it's not like that here, it may be because that's our only point of reference and because we are sharing something about ourselves and our pasts experiences, and sometimes we are just making conversation. I don't plan to erase my past and I would hope that in making a new friend you would want to know something about where I used to live and what it was like especially if you've never been there.

Most people have not complained to us about outsiders too directly, but when we moved here my husband was warned by someone from here that it can take a while to be accepted and in our experience he was right.

Default Califonia people

I just have to say something here, but not sure where to begin. As Iv'e stated in the past, I live in the so called "northern Cal area". I am a very friendly person. If a neighbor needed help with something, I would be the first one to help out. It is the same way here about people being snobish. I live in a large condo complex. I ALWAYS say hi to everyone I pass outside. Most people here won't even make eye contact with you, and forget the return hello. I think it's just that they have been snubbed so often they just give back what they have received themselves. I will admit there are a lot of (can't say it or I will be bleeped) not so nice people in Ca. I can't grasp why anyone would not consider Oregon a great place to live. It's gorgeous!
I can see why OR doesn't want CA driving up the cost of homes. It's getting that way all over this country. My mother lives in Mesa AZ. She tells me they are having a huge population boom. Some from CA, and a LOT from Mexico. The people around my area that are driving up the cost of housing are the people moving here from China,Japan, Taiwan etc. They have the money and are willing to pay the high cost. A small 700 foot condo to them is like having a huge home. The population in those other countries are elbow to elbow. I had to throw that in because of all the Mexican bashing. I totally agree that the Mexico border must be stopped at Mexico. Our goverment(choke) has to stop all immagration. It's time to take care of us, America, and stop letting other countries eat us up.

My step grandfather, cabinetmaker, hated all Californians. As a native Oregonian living in California, he made sure I knew just where I stood with him. He was all about the money. He thought Californians had too much money and they were too picky about his work. Requests to stress his woodworking by beating it with a chain did not sit well with him. He insisted that my grandmother leave all her money to my stepsister, which she did. His bitterness towards others ended his life a bit prematurely I’m convinced. Californians are perceived to have more wealth by Oregonians and resented for their success rather than embraced for the economic prosperity they bring to a community.

I currently reside in CA, but lived in Oregon most of my childhood. My Dad still lives in Redmond. If my husband could find a job in his current field we would be there! It's beautiful clean and a great place to raise kids, not to mention the pines! My fondest memories are looking for tadpoles in the creeks during the summer!

I really didn't make my point earlier on this thread. Californians are being pushed out of CA, and we need somewhere to go. I want to see some green!
Not money, trees.

YES! YES! YES!

About the comment about Asians buying out properties in CA: Being Asian myself, I've seen this happening for about 20 yrs. If they are coming to eventually become US citizens, that is fine but a good portion are not. They are buying properties for investment only and/or buying properties in areas with good schools to send their foreign born kids to. They make no attempt to assimilate into US lifestyles and that really irks me personally. To me, this is not too far from the illegal immigration from the southern border issue, they are simply buying their stay here and that is not right.
