The air around Coos Bay has never really struck me as what most people think is sea air. Actually in my opinion, it doesn't describe anywhere in Oregon.

It's rarely a fresh, cool breeze. More often it's a stiff cool, wet wind that acts to drop temps lower through wind chill. And if you look at a map, Coos Bay is actually inland a ways and not directly on the beach. There is also a small mountain in the way, plus a lot of rotting materials in the river/sound there.

Although it's nowhere as bad as it used to be back when the mills were all running.

We lived in Wa. state most of our life and we say no more rain or snow!!! We are in early 60's and still love to ride motorcycles! So are we wise to do this, anyone? I hope so, I was born and raised by the sea in N. Cal. and sure miss the sea air! Makes my hair curly, lol! kidding!
I expect you are both retired and I think you will love it. I lived in the middle of Coos Bay and the ocean was less than 2 miles away. The sea air does permiate the bay

Both Coos Bay, and North Bend have some newer developments.
Personally, I love living here.

Huh? That poster has not been here in three years. What do shoes have to do with Coos Bay?

Default Re: Shoe

I think the shoe was in one of the attachments.

As to the attachments - Boy did I spend alot of time at Mingus park as a kid. My brother and I would play at the park while my dad watched the baseball games across the street. It seems the see-saws are not there any more. I really enjoyed torturing my brother on them. He was always a sucker. : )

When my husband and I visited in 2006, Coos Bay/North Bend did not change too much. There were some differences but not overall. Some of the stores changed - like there was a walmart and I believe a Lowes. I was sad to see that Mo's was no longer there. My mom worked there. It's the only place I have ever had clam chowder. Best ever (compared to out here on the east coast). The elementary school I went to (Roosevelt, I think) didn't appear to be a school anymore. The train by the musuem in the park moved someplace else.

I'm sad to read how much the area has gone down hill. I had many wonderful childhood memories there. There was always something to do. I think my brother and I spent more time outside then inside. We ran around wild - no shoes, always playing in the dirt, playing with the bugs, always stepping on the slugs. Ugh! We always had and found things to do. There was never a boring moment. This was great as a kid but as an adult there are definately other stuff to take into consideration.

Mingus Park is more or less the same as always. Maybe better. The Elk like it.
