Can you give me some insight on the place please.,....

we are a family of four kids and me and hubby...

Hubby is an electrician by trade... been in it for 20+ years

thanks for any info..

The building bubble has hit here, although since it wasn't as "bubblicious" as a lot of other places, the slowdown is noticeable but not painful (yet). Residential real estate (and hence rent) is sort of bi-modal - there are a lot of houses in the $175k-$250k range and then it jumps up to $375k-$600k.

City-wise, it's pretty much a small town, dependent on agriculture, service industries and building trades, although there is a fair amount of employment with the medical center and Oregon Institute of Technology.

There are a million things to do in the forest and high desert year-round - we picked up some cross-country skiis and snow shoes this weekend and are looking forward to heading out.

Don't have school-age kids so I can't tell you much about the schools.

Default K-Falls Schools

From personal experience, the private ones are the best. Hosanna & Triad.

For the Public ones... how old are your kids?

High schools are getting better.

My son is at Henley High. He has a schedule that (I feel) is a joke. He is not going to grow up to be a farmer, rancher, or forestry manager. (no disrespect to any of those who do - I'm the daughter of a farmer's daughter & rancher's son). Anyways, my kid is taking 2 classes devoted to agricultural pursuits. Makes me crazy. But that is what this school's focus is... our side effect of living outside the city limits.

Klamath Union High School has a higher focus on music, arts & technology, great sports teams and extra curricular clubs (offers swimming, tennis & golf). (city)

Mazama turns out athletes- tough football team (though Henley gives them a "run" in track). (county/city - still fighting about who is in charge)

For Elementary: Roosevelt (city)

Jr High: Ponderosa (city)

Both Klamath Community College & OIT offer credit classes to High school students who can do the work.

The stereotypes the kids use for each of the high school groups are:
Henley = Goat Ropers
KU = Richies or Stoners
Mazama = Jocks

There is a little bit right and a little bit wrong about each of them. I would focus on what goals your kids have.

Hope this helps.

I have no idea what the schools are like but I have been here in Klamath Falls on and off for the last 4-5 years. It is a very small town, though alot of locals will have you believe otherwise. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't move here. Yes, it's inexpensive, but when you can't find work or don't have a job that pays well, you're pretty much stuck here. The crime is overblown many times, especially meth. There isn't anything appealing about this town unless you grew up here or have been here for years and years. I came from SoCal and it was a culture shock to move here.
