What is oregon like to move to
I'm born and raised in the midwest and very proud of it. born in Indiana and currently reside in iowa for school. But for some reason i've always had a fascination with the west particularly northern california and oregon mainly around the eugene area or the cost. I'm currently in school as a history major and politic science and anthropology minor. I love the outdoors, hiking, running, camping boating stuff like that. I also like to go the shooting range. I was wondering if anybody would be willing to tell me any good areas that would suite my needs fairly well out in oregon because once i'm done with school i'm looking to move out there. thank u very much.

Outdoor activities and going to the shooting range (which I love to do also), Oregon would be a good fit for you. If there is no shooting range near where you live, most people seem to go shooting on public land (you can find out where to shoot at BLM offices or go to the local LE department to ask).

There is a great shooting club in Grants Pass (Merlin). They have one of the best Bow courses, and a yearly black powder rendevous. A skeet range, high power range, and a full auto setup.
No better place to fish, and river raft, boating and hunting.
best wishes,

With a major in history and minors in political science and anthropology, you might have a hard time finding a decent paying job in Oregon, or any other place for that matter. Since you are still in school, you might want to learn a marketable skill, otherwise you may end up as a barista in a Starbucks or a clerk in a bookstore.

Oregon's a great place to live. And I can tell you what it's like to move here, becasue we left for 8 months, and if felt great to come back. We could almost "feel" the scenery driving back in through the Columbia River Gorge - which photos can't capture. You have to drive through it, or be in a boat on the river.
I've got a lifetime membership at "The Place To Shoot", an indoor range in Portland. Will be nice to get back there once our home finds a buyer in southern Oregon.
From what I hear, Sherwood Gun Club is a fine facility in the Sherwood area. Probably the best around the west Portland area. There is a range in Vancouver Washington which I used too. Seems it's called "The English Pit Shooting Range" if still operating, and with that name. East side of Vancouver.
Political education?
Why not email George Stephenopolous?
ABC News: George Stephanopoulos
George Stephanopoulos - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Reason being, he may have a brain-storm for Portland area political stuff, because his parents live, or lived in the area. I met his mother once in Beaverton, Oregon. And my father (Greek also) mentioned his parents before I met his mother. So their presence there may have brought the area to his attention.
Long-shot, but he may know of some angle to persue in northern Oregon.

Oh my gosh! You're just saying those things so people will be discouraged from moving there, right?
Oregon had a hwy sign that said something like "Welcome to Oregon...and thanks for visiting. Now leave!"

Not true in So. Oregon, its been sunny since last weekend and forecast says it will be sunny all next week
We were in light T shirts while sledding last weekend, and on the coast it will be over 60 deg. with an offshore wind that will feel like seventy, best time to enjoy the beach in Brookings is in the winter, very little to no wind....

Yes, there was once a sign posted at the California border on private property that echoed the sentiment of pretty much all native Oregonians. While I don't remember the exact wording, the gist was, "Welcome to visit, spend money, then leave." Unfortunately, those folks were forced to take it down.
Californians in particular have been moving to Oregon in droves for the past 40 years and have pretty much destroyed our once-wonderful Oregon way of life. And my own experience (much as the other poster's to whom you responded, I would imagine) has been that they bring all the problems of so. Cal. with them, then complain about the very problems they created here. And the weather; they move up here and then complain about the weather. My thought is always, "You know, if you're so unhappy here, you are more than welcome to go back to California. Please!?"
I've only joined this forum very recently, but the trend I'm seeing is that the folks who will encourage you to move here tend to be real estate agents and builders/contractors. Makes sense, since they stand to benefit financially from a continuous barrage of newcomers.
Fact is, real native Oregonians do NOT like newcomers, who have successfully destroyed much of what Oregon once was.
