All great suggestions! Thanks.

For unrelated reasons we are flying in and out of Medford and the tickets are already booked...... so Portland is a little out of the way. But that sounds like a good plan for another time. I'd like to see Astoria.

Might still work. You could drive from Medford to Astoria in one day. Then start the trip down the coast.

Definitely do what Hawk J says.

The long trip with lunch from Gold Beach is great.

That does sound pretty cool, but definitely read the reviews first. Like from this one, I found.

"If you're in this for a ride rather than actual nature viewing, don't mind getting cold, likes the idea of a 2-hour glorified log ride, and aren't worried about water safety, enjoy! Apparently there are a lot of people in that category: otherwise I can't begin to understand all the great reviews."

And most of the others are in fact great reviews.

Dress appropriately for the weather...

I also took my young'uns on raft day trips, twice, in summer. It's especially FUn to get wet in the heat of summer (July, August, etc) ........the raft folks even stopped for a while to let everyone swim. The Rogue River doesn't have warm water, not when I've been in it.

We had a great day both times. You might not enjoy this way to get close to nature.
