Default John Day and Surrounding Area

I am having a hard time finding information on John Day. Can anyone give me a rough idea of what's there, and what the town is like ? Thanks!

I live in Canyon City, a mile down the road from John Day - we, and many other ex-Californians have relocated here for the vast variety of scenery, great fishing and hunting, and LOOOOOW home and property prices.

Hmmm. I think ericas11 is thinking about some of the small towns that are closer to the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. The city of John Day itself is an important town regionally with about 1500 residents. There are several motels and restaurants, and a large, full-service Thriftway grocery store.

You can read more about John Day and the surrounding area in the local weekly newspaper, the Blue Mountain Eagle (Blue Mountain Eagle • Grant County, Oregon, News).
