Hey all.

I just landed a new job with OSU yesterday and now the planning phase begins. I was looking on several websites last night and there isn't much of anything for rent insofar as homes in Corvallis or Albany. So, with that being said, what areas of Corvallis / Albany are the best to live in, just so I know what homes not to look at.

Also, are there any new homes being built outside of North Albany?

Thanks for your help!

Congrats on the job!

What's your budget, and what sort of space are you looking for?

Apt vs. SFH
How many bed/bath
etc.

In the broader view, there seem to be at least 60+ units showing on padmapper right now, so it's possible you're just not using the right sites, or you may be looking for parameters that don't match the market. That said, in terms of rental pricing it shouldn't look too much different than Sacramento, assuming that's where you are.

Thanks for the congrats and the response.

My price range might be helpful. I have a top end of $1700 a month for rent. I am looking for a Single-Family Home with 3BD/2BA and a good size yard.

Yeah, I am in Sacramento and noticing that the pricing is pretty much the same.

The yard piece might be the tough ask. Lots in many OR communities run smallish - we blame a lot on the UGB as a matter of reflex, but in this case the UGB is one of the reasons.

Corvallis does have a good array of parks, so at least as food for thought you may consider if access to a park might trump having a sizable lot of your own. Plus that way you don't have to do the yard care yourself

One other thing to note is that half baths are reasonably common up here, so if you don't need 2 full showers you might at least want to leave your search parameters at 1 as a way to at least pull in the 1.5s and then weed the 1s out manually.

Padmapper shows a listing from Town & Country realty that might work well, but they don't provide much detail, and the Town and Country website doesn't seem to make it easy to find their rental listings. But might be worth emailing them...

In general, the northwest side of town is a pretty safe bet. Most of the north and SW is fine as well (say, north of Buchanan) - just eyeballing a listing will likely tell you a lot. And I'd personally probably stay off the "major" roads, like Kings and certainly 99.

Thanks for the information bler144.

How are Southtown and North Albany? Those are the two areas that the people at OSU told me to look into.

I've never even heard the "southtown" term in relation to that area. And google maps doesn't seem to know either.

I'd say Silverfall is much more likely to get you advice there. I've been through North Albany (and Adair Village) many times, but not recently and not enough to say why one would want to pick one or the other.

She'll likely jump into this thread soon enough, but if not you could PM her.

How is the area on the other side of I5, away from Corvallis? It seems like house rental prices on that side are much cheaper and the homes seem newer.

I am going to drive up that way in the next couple of weeks if I can't find anything online between now and then.

East of I-5, or east of 99?

East of I-5 most areas are rural or small town. Lebanon is the "big city" at 15k.

If you don't have kids S.D.s probably aren't an issue, but you're talking about saving some money on housing and trading it for driving expense to do most things.
