bunky, what a funny line!
Okay, here is what I see with A FEW Oregonians... I do see some jealousy on the part of A FEW Oregonians in the types of homes that Californians are able to afford here. For example, the average Salemite family income is $51,991 and our average home price is over $273,000. These really huge nice homes are bringing up the averages. Many are purchased by Californians who come up here for a better lifestyle. I mean a $400,000 home in Salem is NICE. It's not so nice in many parts of CA. I think it is hard for A FEW people to see people be able to afford those homes with a $50,000 salary. They use the massive equity from the sale of their homes in CA to buy nice homes here with little mortgages. I don't think Californians are ruining our state. We have people move here from ALL over the US. I also have an ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) child, and I have never waited 5 months for any type of care. I do find differences in what I would consider competant services, and have chosen to take her out of programs that I don't feel are adequate, but that is a personal decision. The only thing I can think of that we had to wait for was for CDRC evaluation, but she was in other services at the time. Having a special needs child is inordinately stressful. I have found many well meaning practioners that I have disagreed with on the direction of treatment for my child, but there is nothing rude about them. I just disagree. I agree that how you view the world is a reflection of your own personal issues. I know when I am having a crappy day, I take every look as more than it is. That has nothing to do with the world, but with me and how I am coping that day. I just remember that when someone is snappy or rude with me, that they might be having a crappy day like I sometimes have, and I cut them some slack. We aren't perfect, and I'd like to think the world is willing to tolerate my not so good days, and in return I will tolerate the not so good days of others. |

So the other man returns the question-what kind of people are in your previous city ? Oh terrible, he says, Their all mean, rude, nasty. Well then, I'm afraid thats exactly what you will find in your new city. |

Ignore Ducks77. Just someone else with an attitude. Fortunately, anyone moving from California probably realizes that he/she has more gray matter than Ducks and will ignore him anyway.

I know it was a nasty post, but I didn't want to sugarcoat how many people feel about what's going on.
But, hey... I wanted to make it clear that not every Oregonian welcomes massive influx of Southern Californians with open arms. You guys can say whatever you want about it - thats up to you. All I'm saying is I don't appreciate the "race for material" attitude that people are bringing up here with them. |

To me buying things keeps others employed, and is the mechanism for moving goods and services that creates a living for all of us. As we can see the economy is built on consuming, jobs go away when people stop building homes, furnishing them, adding appliances and landscaping, and maybe a new car in the garage. The unemployment rate in Josephine county has gone from the high 4's to the high 7's in a year, with the slow down in housing and the need they generate for goods and services (jobs). freedom |

Warning To Californians !!
If you are planning to move from an inner suburb of LA, to an outer suburb of LA - or vice versa - you may as well be moving to France !! The same matter can apply locally, as well as regionally. So I'd say to scratch "Californians" from the post title. It does not matter where you come from. If an area is appealing to you, feel free to move there, no matter where you come from. If it does not appeal, that's an easy one to figure out. |

Cheers to the posts above. Any place you go will have ingorant people, intelligent people, rich, poor and in-between. If someone (no matter where they are "from" or "native to") aks like a holier-than-thou a**, then you are free to treat them as you like. When my husband and I move to Oregon, we don't plan to act like flashy/richy jerk-wads. We plan to bring our medical backgrounds with us, integrate and apply what benefits we can to our new community. The job opening of my particular profession has been open for a year and a half in our target Oregon town. Hopefully we can fill some needs while getting our own needs filled.
