wow, they drive better then i do! lol Im a 3rd generation Oregonian, and while the hubby has his corvette, my ride is much more.....well.....subtle shall we say. lol I dont know ANYBODY that is envious of mine! They might giggle when i go by, but i doubt anyone is admiring my vehicle! but i dont care, it gets me where i need to go...........usually.
Im bummed though, just found out one of my neighbors is moving. They came over the other day, and she was all in tears, hugging and crying and saying she wished they could stay neighbors, but they just got their dream house. Fortunatly still in town, but I thought it was sweet and touching how upset she was! So we cried, the husbands looked uncomfortable, and we exchanged address infor. BTW, they moved here from Cali about 6yrs ago. I get along with them.

Now this is terrible, but kinda funny. I was watching a movie today. Terrible, gross gory movie, but it made me think of some people on this thread. Its called "The Hills Have Eyes 2" And as we're watching these mutant freaks kill off everyone who has invaded their territory, i couldnt help but compare it to how some people claim Oregonians are about people from out of state. Terrible, I know, but you know, certain people just go so overboard about the rudeness and how territorial we Oregonians are, I just coulnt help but compare their overblown drama to this one. Gross, but hey....lol
anyhow, hope everyone can decipher from this that those claims are about as common as the mutant freaks. Im sure they do exist, but not in droves.
Most of us would much rather welcome you than attack you.

Oregon is NOT ostentatious with wealth and achievement. In fact, in certain cities like Ashland (the second wealthiest zipcode in Oregon) people will hide their wealth. Sell your German Imports before you move up here, because Oregonians are not high on the showy flash. People will stare and make comments. Besides Coffee-shops, the dislike of Californians is one of the few things that will unite the extreme leftwing hippies, and the conservative rancher/logger types. So don't complain about the weather, how slow everyone drives, or the lack of shopping.

If it sounds like I'm trying to dissuade you from moving to Oregon, it's because I kind of am. But if you must move up here, know that the place you are moving from represents the exact opposite of everything we strive for. Please, leave the elitism and materialism down down in Santa Monica.

I know some Oregonians will respond to this by saying 'most people are friendly and don't care' yadda yadda yadda. But a lot of us do. So, DON'T RUIN OUR STATE.

... that is all.
Wow, I don't even know what to say. I know that you addressed people from SoCal, but your implication is statewide...

I lived in california for 16 years, born and raised, and never once did I ever step foot in SoCal. Although I was born on the northern central coast, my family moved up to the Redding area when I was 5, and I lived their until I was 16. We were working class, american car driving joes and janes. Our house was (and probably still is) affordable by anyone's standards. We grew up on country music and went to wal-mart on saturday, church on sunday, and took a school bus to school on monday. Jeans and tee-shirts, I only wore "nice clothes" on sunday. Santa Monica might as well have been afganistan, because that's how far away our world was in comparison. I'm 21 now, and I've been living in southern oregon for a little while. I've never once felt, nor has anyone else made me feel, like I've ruined your state. Your state was actually more expensive for me when I first arrived. And I've seen plenty of "foreign imports" around here. Your hatred of an entire state of 36+ million makes me sad. The elitest crowd you despise so much is actually only a small portion of people who live in SoCal and parts of the Bay Area (granted, parts of SoCal and BA have very poor areas too, but that's where most of the elitest crowd lives). Most of the northstate (everywhere above sacramento) and central valley are filled to the brim with working class people like me, humble people who are anything but elite. Perhaps you should plan a trip down there. Maybe then, you'll see, it's not all beaches and big bank accounts.

Default Roseburg, Oregon

I've lived in Roseburg,Or for thirty-four years. I am now 44. Ducks77 couldn't be more wrong. He's making up everything he or she is saying. I'll call Dump77 a he because it sounds like something some unhappy, self conscious 13yr old, spoiled brat boy would say. As long as anyone that wants to move here isn't a criminal or an illegal immigrant, I say come on and move here. You are very welcome. Oh, and no, it doesn't rain here any more than say, Marysville, Ca.
Our summers here are great. All you have to do is check the stats for Roseburg, Grants Pass, or Medford and see for yourself. Grants Pass' sign stretched over their main street states, " It's the Climate" and it's true. On the other hand Portland people mostly are weirdos. The rest of Oregon loath Portlanders and their weird, liberal ways. They are Sodom and Gomorrah.

Portland filled with "weirdos" and being likened to "Sodom and Gomorra"! Wow, well why don't you tell us how you really feel... I'd hate to hear what you think of Eugene or Ashland.

Oh my gosh, Tiffany. When I read your posts on here I'm always so impressed with your sunny disposition, and to hear the things you have had to deal with with your kids...it just goes to show it's how you view the world that matters, not whether some Californians moved into your state.

Thanks for your negative little rant, OP.
Happy here, thanks. I will never settle for mediocrity.

Continue on with the bad vibes if you wish and good luck to you.

Thanks Angelbug. I just know Im very blessed with my kids and I wouldnt trade them for anything. And many many people have it so much worse than we do.
ya, my last worry is where someone is moving from. Besides, i think i mentioned before, my stepmom was born/raised in So.Cal. , as was one of my dearest friends. I got some of the great ones on my side! lol
It just amazes me (and yes, really frustrates me too!!) how some people just wont let go of the old stereotype of everyone in Oregon hating everyone from California. Its so not true and its a very slight % of the population here that thinks that way anymore. If you notice, those that say stuff like that are also usually the ones saying "It rains here 10months out of the year" lol Personally, I think theyre just bitter and want everyone else to be miserable too.....how sad.......

It is true that it has declined a lot. But, 15 years ago, I felt it a lot more. And that was the right chronological window of time when I had to make my friends and stake my claim. I couldn't, so I left, wondering why getting assimilated into a community in a different part of the country was so much easier.

Yeah, I may like the sun (no doubt about that), but I'm not tortured by the gloom, either. It makes it more conducive to concentrating on cerebral work and it makes for great "coffee weather" to hang out at Starbucks or in a Barnes and Noble cafe, but it makes others positively morose. Plus, it's great for your air conditioning electric bill or heating gas bill, as it's in such a comfortable band.

So, true, they don't have the resentment or prejudice at all, but they're not exactly being added to one's list of friends. Let's face it, the stoic flat-lining politically correct Northwesterner and the borderline loud, opinionated, fun-loving and irreverent (about life, not religion) Southern Californian or ethnic New Yorker won't be making the best bedmates, now will they?

People that think Oregonians are rude should try living east of the Mississippi for a while.

Great, another jealous non-californian. You people really need a hobby or something instead of hatin' on us Californians.
