Gonna visit Oregon this weekend and I'm lining up a few houses to check out with my realtor. From the houses he sent, this was the house we loved the most. What do you guys think of the neighborhood? We have lived in numerous cities from good to bad. This is located in Beaverton close to aloha.

That's probably fine, from what I know of the area there. Maybe someone who lives close by will chime in with on-the-ground information. In the meantime, go to CrimeMapper and plug in the address to get some crime information about the area.

It's just we have heard so many mixed reviews on aloha. Was wondering what's the big deal with it. The neighborhoods look good from what we see

Aloha is the biggest dump on the Westside. Mile upon mile of decaying strip malls, gang issues, the occasional shooting, and tons of low income Mexican and White trash stumbling around looking for a meth score.

If I've painted a bleak picture, that was the point. I would look further north on NW 185th closer to Walker, Cornell, or Evergreen Pkwy. Even around Baseline Rd. Any of those areas would be a big improvement over Aloha. Also check out the area near Greenway Park in Beaverton.

Some areas of Aloha are unsightly, especially along TV Hwy. But it's all relative, IMO. I think there are a lot of pockets in and around Aloha that are just fine, and I think the OP may have hit upon one of them.

By reputation, Oakland, CA is a dump... until you get to the neighborhoods with million-dollar homes.

But don't trust us. Do your research.

Any area is going to have "better" and "worse" neighborhoods. But Aloha isn't really that big so you're never too far removed from TV Hwy. Another thing to consider is that Aloha isn't incorporated as a city which means fewer services and slower response times as you wait for the county Sheriffs to show up.

I think you could do better a few miles north without dealing with the issues of Aloha. I would definitely recommend seeing any area for yourself before committing to anything.

Saturday there was an open house on this property https://www.redfin.com/OR/Beaverton/.../home/26720368 We liked the house and the neighborhood. I'm surprised it's still available, but maybe it's a sign the summer frenzy and overpaying for homes is ending. Or not.

Portland crime map: CrimeMapper

Personally I don't understand Aloha's bad rep - is it poorer? Is it less 'cool'? Yes and yes. But otherwise I don't really see the problem with Aloha generally. I wouldn't want to live right on Hwy 8/10 but then I wouldn't want to do that in Beaverton either.

I think similar to 'old Gresham' it just got looked down on by hipper and wealthier places for being more working class and boring and the reputation is now fixed in a lot of peoples' minds. Got to spend time in some of the neighborhoods doing community events and quite liked it, personally.

For me the biggest downside would be that traveling in/out of there, esp. if you're commuting daily for a job that isn't local.
