Planning a trip to Medford/So. Oregon
Hi,
My husband, myself and our dog are planning a trip in late July to the area. We'll be in Medford for 4 days, then want to check out some other area in the So. Part of the State. We have one dog, and a kayak, and would love to incorporate both of those items into our activities, (yes, the dog kayaks).
We are also interested in wine tasting, and I saw on another thread someone wrote about a winery called Woodridge that was dog friendly, but I couldn't find any info on the web about it. If anyone knows of it I'd appreciate a website or address.
TIA
Blu

white water?
Hi there,
Do you go white water kayaking? The Rogue River is an incredible river to float, but you have to have some experience, or go with someone who knows the ropes. The stretches from Shady Cove to Medford are pretty tame. I wouldn't recomend anything below Medford unless you're experienced though. A dog might not far well either on the rougher stretches.
Hmmm..... There are a few beautiful lakes between Medford and Klamath Falls. Lake of the Woods is my personal favorite. July should be a perfect time to see it. There's lots of campgrounds up in the mountains too.
Howard Prairie and Hyatt Lake are 2 lakes off Dead Indian Road from Ashland to K-Falls. They have campgrounds too. I lived there for 16 years, and know the area like the back of my hand. If you want some really tucked away places, let me know. How big and how fast are you looking for? Are you willing to hike in and carry?
As to wineries, I never got into that when I lived there. There is a great creamery though that was within walking distance to where I used to live, The Rogue Creamery. They got bought by a new owner, and jacked up the prices so much I can't afford them anymore, but they totally remodeled the place and have cheese and wine there. It's in Central Point. They have the best blue cheese in the world! I'm more of a beer gal, and there's some great microbrews in the area too. HTH

You should definitely head over to Gold Beach too. You can kayak on the ocean or lower river (estuary) without any problems. The scenery alone is well worth the trip!
