I need the sun. I get depressed in just a few days without seeing and feeling the warmth of the sun on my body. Knowing this, is Oregon totally out of the question as a place to live for me? Or are there parts that my hold some promise?

I don't think you should live in Oregon. Stick to the warm southern states.

Oregon would not be a happy place for you.

East of the Cascades would be acceptable, but cities and towns in this area of the state are pretty isolated from the more populated Willamette Valley.

However, I get pretty bummed out without seeing or feeling the sun for a while and I find in Central Oregon it's still a problem (which is why I'm moving to Nevada). Oregon would overall be a little too gloomy, unfortunately.

If you need sun every few days, you might consider Redding, CA. Really hot summers, but it's sunny almost year-round and very pretty, and affordable.

Of course, depending on one's taste, living in Redding might be depressing despite the weather.

I have one friend who lives there who's been reasonably happy - works remotely / travels a lot. For CA, it is quite affordable and a reasonable place to raise a family.

Had another friend who lived there for 4 years (single, 26-30ish) and couldn't wait to GTFO.

Did you used to live in Oregon or have family there or have a good job offer there or what's the attraction of Oregon if you know it's overcast a lot?

Eastern and Central Oregon are sunny places! check out Bend-Redmond-Prineville or if you're into few people, antelope, stars and sparse sunny deserty stuff, hit the southeast corner, "Oregon's Outback".

Yeah, i think most people would be just fine with the amount of sun in central oregon. The willamette valley and coast are the nogo zones for those who need sun.

As for redding, it is worth pointing out that it is routinely in "most unhappy places in america" lists.

Lots of potential... beautiful river, the best mountain views in america, hub for the region. They really could use a uc or csu to help the economy and culture. The north is always underserved in such matters. Ive enjoyed my visits, but the place always seems under a cloud of trouble. The armed guards who search bags on the way out of walmart kind of say it all...

Probably you shouldn't go to Oregon...if you do, Medford gets the most sun/warmth
