I thought it was because all the 60's era hippies moved there from California and they would sniff the gas as they filled their tank.

If this were a state with a great economy, strong education system and lot of dynamic job opportunities I might be okay with getting rid of it. But Oregon is not any of those things and getting rid of the gas law will not make it so.

When is the last time you heard of a gas station exploding from someone pumping their own gas? As Obama said, 55 out of 57 states can't be wrong.
The only time I have ever had trouble pumping my own gas was when the auto-shutoff didn't work and I pumped about 10 gallons onto the ground under the car before I noticed. I suppose an attendant would have known the pump handle was hinky and kept an eye on it.

Yes, and quite sad how the Democrats have led Oregon to where it is now.

As opposed to the 1980s when the timber collapse occurred and Republicans in Oregon were much more powerful. Victor Atiyeh was governor then, a Republican.

People need to get over wood. We could bulldoze the entire forest in Oregon and Canada would still out-timber us any day. People like to blame environmental policy when it was really trade and a changing market.

By then, it sets in. (for most, but not all!).

So you creep back into your car with your ego deflated. Then when they start to clean your windshield (not always), you feel even more vulnerable. Why is the attendant doing this? Should I roll up my side window? Should I tip? Should I just say "thanks"?

Should I wait until they place gas cap on before starting my engine? (The answer to that is a definite yes).

Oregon gas stops. Always interesting and sometimes entertaining.

Got the same issues, jumping out to pump gas myself. Driving up to visit with relatives in NY and NE and forget about NJ's rule of 'them pumping gas for us'

And how did the timber collapse occur? The (Dem-led) environmentalist spotted owl fiasco. But do you really need to go back to the 80's to try to make a point about the last 20 years of so-called leadership? Just look at how the OR health plan was botched. And the Kitzhaber mess.
But we're getting off track here.

Yes, this thread is about the gas law.

I created a more appropriate thread to discuss larger OR economic issues.

What's wrong with the Oregon economy?

Are you suggesting we put 10,000 people out of work and then raise the gas taxes here to pay for them being on welfare?

Oh please look at all the toothless joes that work at these gas stations pumping the gas. They are probably already on some form of welfare. Doesn't OR have one of the highest food stamp usage rates in the country?????????? It's not like those jobs probably even pay anything over $9/hr??????????
