Ok. Someone fill me in on Klamath Falls, please. Considering leaving Las Vegas for the summer to go work there. Everyone I've met from there appears to be really nice. Thanks.

I recently lived there for 7 years and LOVED it.

K-Falls itself is an old rusty, dusty, lusty town. The surrounding areas are quite nice. Good fishing and hiking within an hour. The people are very friendly, the air dry heat and I never need air conditioning. If you play golf, the Running Y Resort has an Arnold Palmer 'signature' course and is a very good course.

For me, it was near perfection living there.

For a summer? Sure, go, have fun. There is a lot of natural beauty up that way and you can spend your time off doing some fun stuff up in the mountains. I'd trade Las Vegas summer for Klamath Falls summer.

As a permanent move? You'll have to see what you think. It is off the beaten path, presently has no air service (that might change this fall) but does have an Amtrak station. It is a very small town with a very strong "old boy" network (eg: the county commissioners), the job situation is much worse than the Oregon average but housing is also much less expensive. There are definitely parts of town to steer clear of, rental-wise. There are not very many good restaurants, there is only one movie theater, there isn't much in the way of nightlife - if you have been taking advantage of those things in LV, you may miss them.

Well I think it depends on why you would want to go there. I think it has a cute downtown, but there isn't much there for restaurants/etc. There is incredible stuff to do nature wise all around K-falls though.

Now that is true- K-Falls is devoid of decent restaurants.

Klamath Falls was a logging/ agricultural town. Since the logging industry was killed off, K Falls is now an agricultural town, and it is typical of a farming economy.

I find K Falls easy to get around in. There are family style restaurants that are decent places to eat. Shopping is OK and you can get any thing that a person would normally need. Scenery, outdoors sports, fishing, boating are good. You can day trip to skiing and day trip to river rafting.

If you like county music, the casino sometimes has faded country stars giving shows.

Everyone I've ever dealt with in that area has been polite and friendly.

I once visited a friend for three days there, in the Winter. That's all the more I could take. It might as well have been in Siberia. My friend had been married shortly before and was sent there to work for a railroad. His marriage must have been very strong, to have survived in that place for three years. I went out for a run and it was so cold, my breath covered my face with frost. But, once I visited a relative there in the Summer and there were many interesting birds to see on the lakes and connecting river, with nice weather.

While it can be cold, it is also fairly sunny in winter (by Oregon standards). Because of the altitude, on a sunny, non-windy day in winter you can sit out in the sun in a short-sleeve shirt down to about 25° or so. A little wind or in the shade, not so much.

There are a couple of snow storms a year and they can dump several feet of snow at a time, but it usually mostly melts off in a short period of time. The problem comes with getting the streets plowed - the county/city does the major streets (and frequently does a poor job, leaving medians and driveways covered high in piled snow) but the side streets are iffy, particularly if you live in one of the hilly areas.

The weather is not really the biggest downside of the area, although the long winter and short spring is not my favorite.
