We live about 14 miles north of the Falls. We haven't been able to get down in there yet except for the North Falls - still snow on the ground last I heard and it's a fairly treacherous little hike.
We have, however, been able to go to Prayer Butte above Mt. Angel - and from there, on a good day, you can see Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Rainier. Even having come from scenic areas of the Rockies, this is still an awe-inspiring view. Each night, I get to take a hike down by the "creek" - which works just fine as a river for me ... and cross the little covered bridge in town and re-cross it here or there.
I am so glad that I didn't grow up here - I really doubt I could appreciate it so highly. Yet, in this town and this area, even people who have lived here for over 25 years are still in love with it. How cool. Now, if only they could get into football here like back where I grew up - with the REAL OSU

Wallowa Lake
It's amazing how pristine Wallowa Lake is. The Wallowas are the ancestral homeland of the mighty Nez Perce Tribe and Chief "I will fight no more forvever" Joseph. Hands down, it's my favorite. Be careful who you tell about those "special palces". They won't stay that way for long. The only reason I am mentioning Wallowa Lake is because it has some federal protections from predatory developers and their filthy degenerate ilk. Every Oregonian now and in the future deserves to enjoy the untouched and wild Wallowa Lake and Mountains forever. Go check it out.

When I was a teenager I lived in Pendleton and we would back pack into the Wallowas out of Lostine. Eagle Cap Wilderness area may be the single most beautiful place on earth. Lakes, eagles, scarpments, glaciated landscape... how I loved it up there.
