Des, treat yourself to some soft serve at Dairy Queen while you are there. Umpqua Dairy makes it and it is REALLY good! If you get to Portland, head over to Multnomah falls for the best soft serve I have ever tasted in my life.

Enjoy your trip!!

Dan

I will definitely do that! Thanks for the tip Dan. I keep getting all these suggestions on where to shop (for organics) and the best milk and all that stuff from my friends who live in Oregon and I am really pleased to see how "into" Oregon and their products everyone is. It just really gets me so excited to see how down to earth the Oregonians are. For me buying milk would have been a trip to Albertson's or Vons for the cheap generic cr*p I always get but in Oregon, apparently there is milk that MUST be tried... ice cream that is the BEST, and places to visit that are breathtaking. I gotta tell you I've been on a LOT of vacations with my parents all over the U.S. and seen a LOT of stuff but I am MOST excited about coming to see Oregon.

Any other suggestions from locals or people who have been through there and found something irresistable? I'm always looking for neat little places to go. I like to really get in with the locals too and do local-type stuff. That's why I'm going to stay with my friends in Eugene and have them show me around. They work some days though so I want to venture off and do lots of fun stuff!

Des, some of the best crown jewels of Oregon are its rivers, waterfalls, and mountains. Probably not on this visit but Crater Lake will take your breath away. I would say try to see as many rivers as you can the Rogue, Umpqua, Willamette for sure. All you have to do is look out your window to see the mountains. Most of the waterfalls are located along the Columbia River. You would be remiss not to go to Multnomah Falls. You will thank me for suggesting that. The 40 minute drive will do you good.

Dan

Okay I'll definitely check out Multnomah Falls. The person I am travelling with has a special liking for waterfalls and such whereas I have seen a LOT of them. I'm sure Oregon has the best though I have another question for people in Oregon right now. How much is gas costing you these days? I'm trying to budget right down to the dollar in gas money. In Simi Valley it ranges from $2.50-$2.87 a gallon. How does it compare in Oregon?

Oregonians pay extra to have their gas pumped. You'll enjoy not having to get out of your car to pump gas. You might have to ask to have your window washed or oil checked.

I can suggest a wax that will help with parasite drag on your car and there are a couple of other things you can do to better your mileage. First, you can look in your door jam to see how much air is recommended in your tires. You give up a softer ride but you can add a couple pounds of air to help you roll down the road easier. A good coat of Glare Professional Polish will substantially reduce parasite drag. Glare is really a wax but they call it a polish. A polymer wax will do but won’t last as long as Glare. The best place to buy Glare is online from Parker Yamaha in Arizona. The other thing you can do is making sure your air filter is clean. Ask you dealer if they are using cotton instead of paper. If they are still using paper, look at a K&N air filter. That will open up the breathing and give you a little more power. Lastly, put in synthetic oil. That will also free up some power for you as well. I run Mobile 1 across our fleet of three cars. I know you will be anxious to get there but slower speeds save gas and give you time to view the beautiful mountains.

I can’t wait to hear what you have to say about Oregon upon your return.

Dan

Thanks Dan! I'll do all the things you've suggested (except maybe for driving slower ) I know my air filter is definitely due! They keep trying to charge me 35 bucks to change it though and I thought they were only like 5 or 6 dollars? I could probably do it myself and figure it out. Anyway, I will come back with loads of pictures and information for the message board that has helped me so much

Changing an air filter is an easy fix. Instructions can be found in your Owners Manual. They will even show you where it is located so all you have to do is buy the filter and install it. It will take all of 3-minutes at the most. Usually two quick release latches hold the cover in place. It is important to use cotton or K&N. Call the Parts Department at your local dealer and ask if the filter for your car is cotton or paper. Put a sheet of paper over your mouth and try to breath. You will like cotton a lot better. It makes a huge difference. Changing out your muffler is more expense than you need for a single trip but that adds horsepower as well as makes your car sound good.
