No real surprise. It happens every year at Burning Man. Oregon is not immune to traffic problems at large events.

My bad, sorry. I fell for network fake news. Should have known better. The long line of campers and trailers they showed is headed for the hippie music faire, not going out early for the eclipse.
Reports of solar glasses out of stock do abound, however.
200,000,000 people are in the path of the eclipse. The other 100,000,000 will be driving in Monday.

Default Traffic Hyperbole

Yeah, I don't know if it's "fake news", hyperbole to create a narrative of misery for future newcasts, or just bad reporting. Most of the TV news reports regarding conditions in Oregon I've seen state, "miles and hours of backups, detour off 26, lines for gas, no fuel left", with photos of the vehicles stuck going to Oregon Eclipse Festival 2017, east of Prineville, as if all of Central Oregon is like that. No mention of the reason there's a backup: slow entry to the festival.

Aerial view of festival. Thursday(?):

Not to worry. Only all of the people in California are going to Oregon on Monday.
From worldpoulationreview.com:
"California Population 2017, 39,849,872
Our current estimate for California's population is nearly 39.5 million.
At the last official United States census carried out in 2010,
the population of California was declared at 37,253,956
which made the state the most populous in the country."
Let us know how that works out for you.

I was at Lincoln Beach again this morning. The weather was pretty good. The fog cleared out early. Then it was just slightly hazy with a few scattered low clouds. If this weather pattern holds, it could be pretty good viewing from the coast.

I drove down to Winchester Bay - beautiful blue skies on the way down. Just outside of Reedsport going north on the way back, smoke was billowing in from somewhere.
