Yeah, I got a good chuckle out of that.

I trust everyone got to listen to this great tune:

Ballad of the Malheur Patriots

It would not surprise me if the Federal prosecutors behaved with tremendous arrogance that turned the jury off. Either way, let's get the Branch Dildonians the hell out of Oregon. They did the incredible: managed to get me aligned in sympathy with the Federal government and the Oregon State Police. Makes me feel contaminated. Next time, let them cause problems in their own home states, not bring it to the one where I live. When Oregon needs a bunch of Cletuses to tell it how to live, we can send them a memo asking their input.

So Bush appointed a bungler as US Attorney for Oregon.

Congressman Compares U.S. Attorney for Oregon to Former President George W. Bush - Willamette Week

According to the AP, Bundy testified for hours. The prosecution only spent 15 minutes on a cross examination.

I suggest the Federal government change it range management and leasing practices by eliminating all grazing on marginal Federal lands and charge rates determined by open bidding for the decent grazing land for the rest. The BLM should also charge city rates for irrigation water. The Bonneville river authority should charge railroad rates for shipping on the Columbia River Canal system.

Default a case in point

"A case in point was 20 years ago when they banned grazing on the Alvord to "save" the antelope. When there were no cattle to eat the forage, the rabbits moved in, the coyotes followed the rabbits, the rabbit population crashed, the coyotes went to eating pronghorn fawns, and the grazing restrictions killed a bunch of antelope."

This isn't the best example of long distance government ineptitude.

The Sheldon Hart-Mountain cattle ban has had some good results over the past twenty years.

The antelope population has been restored during this period, foliage has reemerged in riparian areas, and the streams are deeper and cooler.

It's become a richer habitat that supports a variety of life (sadly including red spider mites around the hot springs).

A harsh winter limiting grazing opportunities is thought to have caused the population plunge in the 1990's.

So... bad cows!
