I lived in Alabama for five years and was never so happy as the day I left. We lived in a smallish town in northeast Alabama and the racism and sexism were just intolerable. Good for you for considering your escape and I'll bet you would love the Pacific Northwest.

@peaceloveandjulie - what central oregon city did you move to if I may ask. I lived in TX and agree with your assessment and have been looking at Oregon, but not sure which city is best. I've been trying to get work near portland but so far nothing...
