Temporary rental suggestions for elders
Greetings! I am in search of short term rental for my parents (both are in the 70s) along the Oregon shores. Due to our budget constraints, we are looking at under $1,000 a month for a small place with private bed + bath. I understanding it may be a house share situation given the budget.
My question is which city do you guys recommend? I heard great things about Lincoln City but I recognize that it's much more expensive there. One other thing is they won't have a car so it could be a challenge getting around...
I welcome any suggestions. They live in Vegas but want to get away during the summer months (June - September).

Here's an idea that won't' appeal to everyone, but you might check into a manufactured home park like the Pacific Homes Beach Club in Newport. My aunt & uncle for years lived in Arizona for half a year and in Eugene the other half. In both places, they owned a manufactured home, made good friends, and were close to shopping and activities. They loved that lifestyle and it was not very expensive.

Coast time
Hi,
I would look at Newport as a place to rent. It has the hospital, Safeway, Fred Meyer and Walmart, and in your rental price range. There are some homes right around the corner from Fred Meyer (a major grocery and dept store) that would be perfect.
The other suggestion would be Florence. I think Florence has the best senior services on the coast. Another idea would be to call the Chamber or the Senior Center and ask them for ideas. Avoid small (but cute) coastal towns that don't have medical services (hospitals). Waldport has an urgent care but it is closed on weekends and I am not so sure about the in town housing situation.
Hope this helps

Without a car in Lincoln City - life is really difficult.
Oh, the Casino supplies a "call-first" bus - and it gets used quite a bit but the idea is to put you at the casino - which is no real help for everyday life if you can't also walk a mile or two ... or three.
Groceries are all spread out. Yes, they're expensive. I'm told that the Safeway (at the extreme north end of town) is the most expensive in the State. Restaurants are all spread out as well. Lincoln City is long and narrow - only about 7 blocks wide (variable) but 6+ miles long.
Not a good choice IMO - I just spent a year there. I don't really have a currently "better option" for coastal living - we moved inland. However, I did like Florence. Didn't care for Newport - again, spread out and really jammed in the summer-time. Health care in the area does not have a good reputation.
