I agree about the weird Castro Street comment, but other than that, you got some good advice here. The small population out here just doesn't lend itself to specialized niche businesses like gay bars.

If you run "gay friendly business Oregon Coast" through a search engine, you'll find quite a few Air B and B type rentals and a few inns, but you said you wanted to know about places to eat and shop. There's a food co-op in Coos Bay, I believe, but otherwise, that's just not a strong business model out here. You can find small natural food stores here and there all along the coast; it's more probable than not that they're owned by those with a progressive mindset.

Lincoln City is a few miles north of Newport and has a pride festival, I believe.

Btw, Kate has acknowledged her bisexuality for many years with very little controversy.
We know, and none of us care except for transplants of the variety mentioned upthread (by Mike) who think it's somehow ubercool to have a bisexual gov.

Very interesting. It seems to have been cancelled since 2015.

It's very simple actually; I doubt an African American couple would patronize a restaurant flying a confederate flag nor would we. We prefer to keep our dollars in our community. Others groups do it also; some Jewish and Mormon groups do that and I don't judge that behavior.. We have found a few places on the coast who serve everyone without question but we're just trying to spread our dollars around.
Thanks again for your response. Btw, Kate has acknowledged her bisexuality for many years with very little controversy.
Please don't shoot the messenger, just because you don't like the message. I was just giving an honest opinion. I don't know of any gay friendly businesses, anywhere in Southwestern Oregon. My information comes from talking to gay people, who live here. Ashland and Eugene have small gay communities, and businesses there are mostly neutral, but still not gay "friendly", from what I'm told. Most gay people here travel to these areas.

At the north end of your range, there's this: Oceana Natural Foods - a member-owned marketplace that promotes community and health - at the corner of 2nd & Benton in Newport.

They can probably recommend other places in the area.

Or here: OCC PFLAG

Have a good trip!

Then here are the counties where you don't want to spend your money . That would be most of Oregon.

Again - except that the individual cities in that county map often vote the opposite. If you look at the precincts that make up Medford, Jacksonville, Ashland, the vote was the opposite of the Jackson County vote.

Nye Beach seems very LBGTQ friendly and it's a historical little area.

I'm moving to Oregon too! My sister and I own a home in SoCal, and she'll be living there while I try something new. I love the coastal areas of Oregon, I'm also gay and it doesn't seem to matter to most people there. I'm looking for a small rental, so hopefully I find what I'm looking for.

Since I want to be near relatives (close to Portland), I'm staying in the north, maybe Seaside or Astoria.

Seaside or Astoria are not the closest coastal areas to Portland. Any place between Cannon Beach and Lincoln City would be closer.

What kind of work are you planning to do?

Thanks for the advice. Money is not really an issue, since I have enough to live on for at least a few years, but I would like to open a bakery wherever I move at some point.
