Hello All;
Anyone out there know of gay friendly restaurants, bars or shops on the central to southern Oregon Coast??
From Newport on down to the California border. Also, looking to find like kind of places in and around Cave Junction.
Thanks

You don't find "gay friendly" places in towns of less than 2,000. What you find is places where mostly no one cares. Will you be the only gay person there? Maybe, maybe not. If you are talking about place to meet other gay people: not much luck in very small towns.

Given the mix of people in the Cave Junction area, you may well run into the odd anti-gay type.

That's more or less how it is.

With emphasis on the "mostly no one cares" part.

Actually what I'm looking for are places to eat and shop that are "progressive". My husband and I would like to spend our money within our community vs. spending it in businesses who support Donny trump. Thanks

I don't think you'll find any businesses on the Oregon Coast flying a rainbow flag out front even though there are probably many business owners who share your progressive values. You might try Homegrown in Florence.

Most business owners don't talk politics. I would encourage you to just support mom and pop places and don't worry about the rest.

I also know that there are some great business owners that support #45 and do great things in our communities. It's up to you but I find that a bizarre way to do things in small town America.

You might want to look farther south. The Castro District in San Francisco would be perfect for you. Otherwise as others have suggested, just don't talk about politics and you will be fine.

To be honest, you are just going to have to check it out for yourself and draw your own conclusions on whether or not you want to support the business you are visiting.

I don't know if you've ever been to Oregon, you can't judge a book by it's cover here.
You never know who you might be talking to, and I would venture to say that *most* people keep their social attitudes and politics to themselves.
Outwardly, they might seem "progressive" but you never know.

Don't trust a person who is wearing baggy board shorts, dreads, river sandals, and a faded brown or tan outdoors themed t-shirt with an outdoorsy baseball cap and a puka shell necklace to share your "progressive" attitudes.
Man or women, that's kind of a put on generic "transplant" Oregon uniform.

You are most likely looking at a fake image "poser" who wants to look "Oregon Cool".
You can spot them a mile off.
If you don't believe me, just observe, wherever you are.
Once you see them, they are everywhere.

PAY ATTENTION TO THIS:

The area around Cave Junction is known to be a little off kilter, so it's best to be kind of bland and unassuming, if you get my drift.

If you are going there to see the Oregon Caves, it's pretty cool unless you try to drive a motorhome up there.
That's asking for pure misery. Don't try it. It's not worth it.
Park at the visitors center and try to find some kind of shuttle.

Please don't judge me or my advice.........I'm being real with you..........

Hmmm we are going out to the coast, and (my first time in 15 years or so) and I will keep my eyes open and post back for you-

I would think that if there is a collective of some sort, like a food cooperative, etc...
that they would be LGBT positive, etc - and also back in the sierras where I used to vacation - we happened on a delightful lodge/ B&B with a park attached that was run by a gay couple and was very LGBT friendly...

So there must be something out on the coast

(I did not know that Gov Kate Brown ID's as bisexual....)

Thanks for your honest and non judgemental post (unlike a few people on this thread - one who recommended "Castro Street"! My husband and I are well aware of those stereotypical places including Provincetown, Fire Island and Key West! Some people questioned why we would limit our dollars to progressive businesses. It's very simple actually; I doubt an African American couple would patronize a restaurant flying a confederate flag nor would we. We prefer to keep our dollars in our community. Others groups do it also; some Jewish and Mormon groups do that and I don't judge that behavior.. We have found a few places on the coast who serve everyone without question but we're just trying to spread our dollars around.
Thanks again for your response. Btw, Kate has acknowledged her bisexuality for many years with very little controversy.
