It's looking pretty slow in the Oregon Forum, so I suppose this is a good time to announce my departure from the beautiful Rogue Valley to the Oregon coast. I thought I could leave coastal living behind when I left Florida, but I must have saltwater in my veins!

I will find out firsthand in the coming months just how horrible it is and will be sure to report back. Right now I'm excited about days spent beachcombing, watching the fog and storms roll in and being out of the extreme heat and cold weather of the valley.

No one need warn me about the weather. I lived in San Francisco for 10 years and the weather is very similar. I got by with one pair of shorts which only left the drawer when I went up to the Russian River to visit friends. Can't take the heat any longer which is one reason I left Florida.

I had planned on escaping the summer heat for a few days and discovered it's nearly impossible to find a rental unless you booked it weeks in advance and that's just not how I roll. So instead, when the gloom gets to be too much I'll head to the valley which always has places for rent.

And sunsets! Unlimited sunsets over the ocean......

Coastal posters, please share your favorite spots in Brookings and Gold Beach. See you next month!

North central coaster. My sister now has the PC house.
Find a place where you can view the early sunrise over the mountains and sunset with the rocks silhouetted.

Well congrats on the move- a new adventure is always exciting- we enjoyed our recent trip to Cape Kiwanda ( north of central) and have spent plenty of time in north coast of CA... as well- look forward to hearing about how you settle in and your observations re: central coastal Oregon!

Recently there was a monologue on NYC public radio about Gold Beach by a writer who grew up there. He remarked about the city's financial struggles as a result of the death of the timber harvest industry, but also about the new hospital and that it is attracting retirees.

The next person who tells me how crappy the weather is on the coast, I'm going to burn his hand on the hood of the nearest car. It is HOT. And not just that, it has been hot for a long while and it's projected to BE hot for a while longer. ok, rant over. Peace.

I hear you but nobody wants to believe the bit about the heat in the summer and we tell the story but it falls on deaf ears. It's just going to get hotter.

I have a home near the coast. It was 82 yesterday and 79 today. Big deal.

I have a place in Alaska also; looks like they've issued a weather advisory for the Anchorage area because it will be in the 70s and 80s.
