Wow, thanks everyone for the advice and links!
My dad is a braver driver than I and is the one who suggested cutting through Bend. Depending on the weather (we'll check when we hit Salt Lake) we are tempted to take the scenic route, and also how early we can get out of Ontario. I'm so excited to get there I wish it was tomorrow! I would rather be safe and take the interstate but my husband likes the scenic route, since he's doing the driving that leg I'll let him choose.

We really appreciate everyone's advice..these forums are great and I can't wait until I know enough of something to post and be helpful...in a couple of weeks we'll post the route and how it went in case anyone could use the info....THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!

Not sure I'd recommend this while in a moving van, but from Salt Lake you could come across the Bonneville Salt Flats to Winemucca, NV, up Highway 140 to Lakeview, OR and Klamath Falls and then up 97 to Highway 58 through Oakridge to Eugene.

Sort of "down and over" instead of "up and around."

Default Thanks PNW

I have driven the Nevada-Lakeview drive, and it's pretty ugly until you hit Oregon!
I'll look into that way..after Lakeview..Thank you!
