For being that close to Yachats, I'd call that a survivalist lifestyle. Please visit that area first before moving with children. It's a beautiful ocean setting, has a summer-time farmer's market, zillions of vacation unit rentals but......a visit works for me. There are kid friendly towns within 30 miles you may want to check out -- Florence to the South and Newport to the North. Good luck with your decision.
Ahhh! So this is why people look at us so strangely when we're visiting yachats - they've never seen people with kids before! I thought we were overdressed or something...

Seriously, though... I feel the same way about Yachats... great place to hang out, visit, be creative, contemplate, eat! But it seems like a little artsy village, a place to meditate and create, not so much a place to raise a family. Unless you are looking to raise your kids in a sort of "every man is an island" sort of way.
