Default Hillsboro

Whenever I look at Best Places lists for living, retiring, etc. the town of Hillsboro pops up fairly often. We live in Ashland right now and like it here but it's a small little town and not really near a big city (I don't count Medford as such).

Many articles paint a rosy picture of Hillsboro. So, where are the warts, if any?

Hillsboro doesn't have a "downtown" per say, it is mainly outgrowth between two large arterial traffic systems. It is bordered by TV Highway (Tualatin Valley) and Sunset Highway and then Highway 8 and 10 run right through what would be considered the core of the town, a few shops, a few restaurants and the library and community center are located here. There is a semi-town where the few government buildings reside but it dies after 5pm. Mostly it's houses built in the 40s and 50s with all new growth sprouting up in large condo complexes on land that used to be wetlands or farmland. Hillsboro is a place you go through to get to somewhere else. it is definitely not a destination.

Wow, I lived in Hillsboro as a child and have nothing buy very fond memories. Looking back now as a parent, I thought my education was superiror. I remember going to the movie theater and sitting in the balacony. Going to the bowling alley and the skating rink. The park, etc. Never thought of it as a go through town. But, from the eyes of youth I guess! I do remember last I was there, I couldn't believe how many mexican restuarants there were!
