Wow!! I'm crushed!! Bandon factory closed down?? It's been quite a few years since I was in Bandon-8/9 yrs, and we went there for the cheese samples and ice cream (well, for the ocean also). It was wonderful. But we heard at that time that Tillamook had bought them out. So sorry to hear they're gone. Now that you mention it, it has been 3/4 yrs since I've seen the the Bandon name. I figured it was just because it was under the Tillamook name and/or cuz I'm stuck down here in CA.
Provincal b, I'm glad to hear cows still outnumber people in Tillamook. My kind of place. My mother was born/raised in Tillamook. Maybe I should go back there instead of Willamette Valley. Hmm, I'll have to think about that.

After all these years, Albany still has a reputation for being stinky because of Western Kraft and Wah Chang -- trust me, it no longer smells at all, and hasn't for many years, but for some reason when you mention Albany in a conversation, the smell factor inevitably comes up.

You made me laugh!! Now that you mention it There wasn't any odor the last few years I was there. I can remember when I was still quite young "5"ish and our family would be travelling to Seattle for the P.I. cattle shows, and all of a sudden my older brother and I would be yelling at Mommie that little bro had pooped his pants and it turned out it was the drive past Albany that we were smelling. But as you said, that was many, many years ago.

We lived smack dab between Netarts and Oceanside for six years in the 1990's - I have to say once in awhile in Tillamook you got the cow poop smell ( but we love farm smells anyway ) and it doesn't bother you. Really, its not a problem. Don't worry.

Tillamook The land of cheese, trees, and ocean breeze! Yeah, it has an aroma, but not a bad one... not like The Aroma of Tacoma or anything. I would get used to it, too. By the way, they don't make Limburger...although they could

The cheese factory is on my poop list, as they bought Bandon Creamery, took the name, and shut it down. Then they tried to deny Tillamook Country Smoker, a long-time jerky/meat producer, the right to use "Tillamook" in their name. I refused to buy Tillamook cheese products until that was settled. It is a farmer cooperative, though, which is, in my opinion, a good thing.

Whenever we drive through, all I notice in a few spots are the farms smells, but nothing I can pin on the cheese plant.

Certainly not anything like a pulp mill.

I used to work at the The Tillamook Cheese Factory. They have their own Waste Water Treatment Plant (sewer). They try to get away with not running the system that cleans up the smell to save money. When people start complaining, they turn the system back on. Nothing sweet smelling about it.

Why do you ask?

Do you mean in the facility or in the town?

We never noticed much of any kind of odor at the factory.

Default The Tillamook Cheese Factory Stinks, Literally.

The Tillamook Cheese factory definately does stink. They have there own waste water treatment plant on the site. They try to get away with not using the DAF system sometimes, because they want to save money. One time I heard the director of engineering instruct the WWTP tech to turn the DAF system back on because the neighbors were complaining about the horrible stench.
