This article was on the KCBY newsite today, it seemed relevent to this thread, so I thought Id share.
" By Kristina Nelson COOS BAY - Some come for the arcade games, others come for the skateboard park, either way an unlikely spot in Coos Bay has become a popular new place for Bay Area teens to hang out. Last December, two Bay Area residents first had plans to turn the old J.C. Penney building in Downtown Coos Bay into an alcohol and drug free hang out spot, called SOBERS. . BTW, like Ive said, I work w/kids, and yes, there are several, very friendly, parents of younger children in the area...people who are in their early/mid. 20s. There isn't a lot to offer for your age group or kids. Big meth problem among the 20-30yo crowd as it is mostly the ones who never went away to college and have crappy jobs at walmart or the casino. Pretty sad. It was hard being in school and seeing how many of the other kids lived in complete poverty. Not a very good place to raise children unfortunately imo. It seems like the high schools care more about football than academics.

A big thanks to the forum, and special thanks to teffela74, you have been a big help and notice you are always willing to give a hand to everyone, We are excited, We have found that people in Or. are very down to earth and have had no negitive encounters what so ever, My wife went up for a visit and found everyone to be so polite and courtiuos, you forget what it is like to see a young man stop and hold the door for someone, its the little things we are looking forward to.... thanks again and would like to re-visit this thread, but on a brookings note. Ive just read on the Abalone laws there very strict, 1 ab a day 5 per year???? anyone out there dive, and where are all the local gems, I cant wait to explore our new town
