I read on here that it is "charming" but my family in Oregon told me I would be dissapointed. I must say, I am not impressed from the pictures,(nice park though) not at all like I had pictured from my chats on here, I am a little bummed (however, the photos are very nice-good photographer !).All the time living in Portland, we had never been there and I guess I always had an "image" of it. My bad. I will be there next week, one week from today, to see for myself.

Obviously you have to check the city out for yourself. Keep in mind that these 4 photos do not give you a complete picture of Corvallis (i.e. no photos of OSU campus, which is a considerable part of town).
Also keep in mind that this is not a city planned and built in the 1980s - 90s like so many places. Corvallis just celebrated it's 150th birthday, so there are railroad tracks going right through town and several older buildings, some in disrepair. It's not all gleaming new construction--there's some new, some old, and some of that mid-20th Century "blah" architecture. In other words, it's a "real" town with a history.
Admittedly, this is not everyone's cup of tea. I wouldn't fault someone for wanting the gleaming new gated subdivision, planned to the hilt, just as I wouldn't fault someone for wanting to make raised planter beds out of used tractor tires!

Sorry if my first post sounded "snotty". I really do love historic areas,,just thought there was more to town, thats all. And as I stated, the photos were done very nicely and it still looks like a very very nice town. Just different from my head pictures. Thats all. I still cant wait to come. I am pulling out the suitcase already!!

There is definitely more to town than what was revealed in the photos. I have to say that when I first saw those photos with the empty streets and the closed-down movie theater I thought, "this makes Corvallis look like a ghost town."
I hope you post your opinion after you visit, nanannie. And if you decide you don't like it, don't worry. We residents are realistic about our city and it's drawbacks. It's just that people like me find the benefits outweigh the drawbacks... (isn't that the case anywhere you live???)

I cant beleive I wont like it, it might not be "home" for me, but whats not to like--its Oregon !! Yes, I will give a trip report. I am visiting areas we have never been, or not been in so long we cant remember them, like Eugene,Cottage Grove, etc, then a few nites at the coast. Corvallis happens to be top of my list as for some reason, it seems to be calling. I am not judging something just by photos. Sure wouldnt want to be judged by the photos of me!!

A person in my opinion has to see the sights around Corvallis Oregon with in a range of 60 miles radious circle.
Specially Alsea Water Falls area South West of Alpine Oregon on the Alsea Access road that traverse through the Forested area its self.
I graduated school at Alpine 8th grade and went to Corvallis Senior High School.
Alsea Falls has a park and water falls and camp site pay per nite for camping lots of water and nature trails.
It is butiefull area.
This was my stomping grounds for 30 years.
