Beautiful areas of Oregon
Which scenic cities of Oregon are least likely to suffer urban sprawl, stay heavily treed, and basically remain rural but allows a few residents? Do these places even exist?

Judging by the number of views and replies, I guess there is no such place. Nevermind, I have switched my sites on Washington.

Joseph, Oregon definitely.
So you changed your mind because no one jumped in soon enough for you?

Mulino has some areas like that, we were on a 75area lot that backed to Forestry land, so it would never be logged. Lots out that area arent allowed more then 1 resident per 5 acreas...most people had more...
anyhow, i know theres more, but if this person has already dismissed Oregon, why bother?
If someone else wants to know, and can be a bit more patient, Im sure theres more where these came from...

You already asked this on 4/10/08. Typical SoCal attitude that gives us all a bad rep. Alert: states like OR and WA are slower-paced. Get ready: I bet the BMW dealership you inquired about earlier will take a little longer to serve you, also. You can't expect to be welcomed in a new place with an old attitude.

I think the issue is that you wanted to be within one hour of a BMW dealership and upscale dining, if I remember correctly. Those places exist, but you are looking to be within an hour of Portland which limits your choices. If you head into Columbia County towards St. Helens and Ranier, you will get a lot of trees.
You could also head towards Rhododendron and ZigZag, which are also heavily treed.
If you head south away from Portland, this is primarily agriculture land, so you get stunning views, but not as many trees. We have a lot of secluded areas due to rivers.
Aurora has only 900 people and has some gorgeous scenery around Champoeg.
I would think Southern Oregon would be your best bet for trees and seclusion, but then you might lose the BMW dealership.
Also, two hours for Oregonians to respond is nothing. If you are going to live here, you will have to learn to slow down. Coming from Chicago, I can say it took me about 3 years to adjust to the slower pace. When I head back to Chicago, I feel like a snail now.

So asking a question on 4/10 is a typical SoCal attitude that gives you all a bad rep? Wow, sorry. When I checked for a response to my question there were hundreds of views and no responses. I figured that I must have been dreaming to find such a place in Oregon.
As to your alert and your bet, I do not care how long the BMW dealership takes to serve me. I just need a dealership available to serve me as this is the only brand of car I have ever owned and I will need service from time to time. I believe in brand loyalty.
As for the old attitude you are talking about, what exactly are you talking about? I simply asked about an area that is likely to stay beautiful for some length of time. I found a house on Fern Ridge Lake that I fell in love with, but the owner admitted that the area is one of the fastest growing cities in the state. This is what I am trying to avoid.
I have family in Washington, so I already know what a "slower state" is like. I also have a second home on the east coast, that means I know what metropolitan living is like. I was only asking a simple question about rural areas that may suit my needs for a retirement home. I thank those of you who gave me good information. I think your problem is that you can't stand the thought of a young retired person who drives a BMW is looking to buy in areas that you can't afford to live in. No, I guess that I would not be welcomed if everyone has your "old attitude".
PS-By the way, Readers, when did I ever mention I needed to be near Portland?

You said in your previous post that you wanted to be within an hour of upscale dining, and the BMW dealership. Upscale dining is pretty much Portland.
People are just trying to be helpful in giving you ideas. You laid out a lot of criteria before which limits those small towns that you are looking for.
If you can give up the upscale dining and drive further to get your beemer serviced then you will have a lot more options.
