I've lived in Boise, ID, Pendleton, Salem ... and have spent a great deal of time in Grants Pass/Medford area.

GP for sure. Pendleton is a dead town unless you are a farmer or are really into the cowboy way. There is little to nothing to do there... no really good retaurants, nightlife is horrible, much more extremes of temperature in winter and summer, nasty winds, very high DUI and meth rate for the size of the population.

I would not go back there if I had a job offer that tripled my salary. The 4 years I spent there were the most unpleasant I've had. Sooooo ... take it for what it's worth. I'm very biased on this one.

I think the meth problem in not only in Pendleton but it is all over Oregon. Grants Pass has it meth district just like any other city.
But Pendleton is all not bad, people are friendly, it does get windy, very little rain compare to Grants Pass.
Pendleton is a dead city...no social scene for anybody but cowboys...
Pendleton is surrounded by farms and nothing else, the Blue Mountain are nice to look at in the winter. For a small town it has it feels.

Grants Pass is better socially but a lot more retirees and much more expensive housing. It does get more cloud and rain then NE Oregon. I vote for GP but Pendleton is good for farmers and cowboys....

I vote for Pendleton if you like small town feel, with very low cost of living. Grants Pass is pricey if you don't have a good job.

Default Grants Pass vs. Pendleton

I don't know about Pendleton, but I wouldn't go back to Grants Pass for love nor money. We moved from there 6 months ago after living there many, many years. House prices are still too high, too many retirees, not enough for kids to do, traffic congestion, gangs, meth, crime, homeless, county govt. is dysfunctional, no sheriff patrols, no library, just to name a few things. Shopping isn't that great, a lot of people go to Medford to shop. btw, I hope the job offer isn't with the county. On the up side, winters are mild, the Rogue River is beautiful (don't bank fish when the jet boats are running), property taxes are about the lowest in the state (which is why the county has no money), the scenery is beautiful, there are a couple of lakes, and it's a nice drive to the coast. Some of you may not agree with me but that's one of the great things about this country, I have my own opinion.
