Grants Pass Vs. Pendelton
I am from the PDX area and the gray sky is getting to me. There are 2 job position for me, one in Pendleton and one Grants Pass.
I don't know which one to take up....
I hear Pendleton has:
-lots of sun
-some snow
-dust storm
-low cost of living
-stable economy
-Cowboy town
Grants Pass has:
-lots of sun
-hot summers
-very little snow
-lots of Cali. Retirees
-real estate sky rocketed
If you had to choose, which one would you pick?
Please weigh your pro and cons.
Most importantly which city has better outdoor activities?
I love to fish, snowboard, and enjoy the sunshine.
Last concern is....Racism? I am Asian.
Any input is appreciated, thank you.
With Kind Regards,
-LV

Grants Pass is your choice.
I've lived in Pendleton and it was the one & only place I've lived in Oregon I wouldn't want to go back to. It's a virtual dust bowl. Yeah, there's lots of sun, but aside from that the town was a bust. There's a few things to do within 30 miles, but overall it was a disappointing place to live. It's also going to be cheaper housing than Grants Pass.
Grants Pass is a beautiful area with lots to do. Great place for kids, too.

LV, If it were me, I'd take GP. The fishing around the area is very good, Rogue River that runs through town, and with in an hour drive you can be in the high Cascades to the east or on the Oregon coast to the west. As far as racism, I don't think you'll have anything to worry about.

I too vote for Grants Pass.
Housing will be inexpensive, but be warned that the reason why that is so is that there isn't much demand. You should be able to find suitable housing as a renter and save more money for retirement.

I appreciate everyone's feedback. I will be visiting Grants Pass next month. Hopefully, everything goes well and move by summer ends.
Pendleton is a nice city too, it does have cheaper houses then Grants Pass. It does get less rain too. But from what I hear Grants Pass is more lively then Pendleton.

I vote for Pendleton. It has less smog and fog. Grants Pass has too much retiree and housing is more expense. Pendleton...very low key area, friendly people, nice weather and a lot of nothing around it.

In GP, you're going to have access to all the cultural delights in Jacksonville and Ashland--Peter Britt Music Festival, Shakespearean Festival, four star restaurants, etc. I also vote for GP.

Pendelton has nice weather??? What constitutes 'nice' depends on what you value. I vote Grants Pass.
However, the Blue Mountains are magnificent.. (shut your mouth Oregone)
