Agreed, Brookings is lovely. Spent my summers "there" (Ship-Ashore) with my g'parents. Do you remember the Christmas Tree Restaurant?

Thank you so much for all the info! I checked into all those cities.

The ones that i have narrowed it down to so far are:
Silverton
Sublimity
Cottage Grove
Sisters
Ashland

And i must say that all of them seem simply fantastic so far!

The one thing i have found varying data on is the weather. I am looking for snow in the winter for several months. And 6 inches or more if possible.

Can anyone tell me about the weather in these towns on my list?

The only place you'll have much guarantee of a lot of snow is Sisters.

I was scrounging for a good source for you about snow averages. Here is one put out by OSU for averages from 1961-1990. Pretty much you have to be east of the Cascades to get regular snow. If you scroll down there is a chart with the average snowfalls by month. Hope this helps!

Default Try near Salem

Colleges? Willamette U. and Corbin in Salem Jr. college? Chemeketa in NE Salem and Western Oregon U. in Monmouth.

Salem is the hub of Oregon's 2nd largest metro area and many small bedroom communities would serve you well Take Dallas, Monmouth, or Independence to the west and Stayton, Sublimity or Silverton in the east. The beach is a day trip. Portland is 50 miles north. And the high desert is 3 hours away.

I know this post is old.. but i have looked into this, and here are my thoughts.. Ashland is very cute, a lot like stars hollow.. themey events, etc, around holidays, plus they have lithia park - next to downtown.. even an ice rink in the winter!! Camas, WA is a suburb of portland and i think this is very stars hollow-esque. It has a "Lemon-aid" car place, i think the name is so cute, and an antique mall.. a pizza place, coffee, etc.. very small town feel, 15 mins to portland airport.. you can see mount hood as you enter the town.. also a cute little league field.. the library is really cute and is downtown. The streets are tree-lined.. the only thing, I didn't see a park or village green area in downtown, but there was a fountain.. and a flower shop. they also have a paper factory, but i thought it was kind of neat.. another town is Corvallis.. if you look, they have a central park in downtown with a gazebo, looks kinda of like stars hollow to me.. they have music there, etc. plus fall foliage, but not a lot of snow... also lots of family friendly events, and a college right there.. for SNOW.. from what I could tell, Hood River, OR gets more snow and is one hour from portland on the columbia river gorge... it has a cute downtown. and small .. 6,000 pop. Ashland is like 25,000 i think.. another place with snow is Bend or areas around Bend..also look into Troutdale, OR (across from Camas, on the oregon side) . it's cute.. and 20 mins from portland.. Sherwood, OR is a cute suburb of portland and Canby is cute. (another portland suburb) .. oh, one more, McMinnville, OR.. one hour from portland, and one hour from the beach.. cute downtown.. alien costume parade (very strange, but like stars hollow) and a turkey festival thing.. lots of stuff for kids...

I have to wonder if this was another, let's cash in on the house in Cal. and move to Oregon, or a "jobs don't matter for us" kind of thread. And I wonder what the OP decided to do in the end. Those threads were very popular from 2000-2008, but less so these days.

I tend to get a bit misanthropic on these threads, because here in quaint Ashland younger working parents tend to buy in Talent, Phoenix, or Medford, the only younger families who can afford to move here have inheritances or equity windfalls and often put their kids in private school, even though the publics are excellent. Two of them are now closed. Oh, well I can give up that fight, because I suppose that bubble-driven pattern is now fading. And good riddance.

I will note that people still list 3br/2 ba homes for $5-600k here, and out-of-state people with Audis buy them, so it not really Mayberry.

Did a quick search on the OP, was from Phoenix, not Cal. and I think she ended up in Poulsbo, Washington.

Since Gilmore Girl's "Town" is on the back lot tour of Universal Studios in Hollywood...

But pretty much any town in Oregon with less then 500 population should fit your definition of "quaint."
