Yeah, it sounds beautiful, but all of that rain sounds like too much. Has meth crept its way up there? Quite frankly, we have been looking at VT also, now that I have read so much about meth. Not that we can escape it, but it seems so pervasive in OR.

westcoastbound,
As to meth...yes I hear about it on the news (although mostly from the bigger cities - Portland/Salem) quite a bit. I know that in Albany there are some parts of town that have had (in the past) the reputation of having labs...but with the change in the laws regarding prescription cold medications it seems to have cut down on the local production, and it is now being "outsourced" to Mexico (according to the radio talk show hosts).

That said, although I acknowledge that there may be a growing drug problem all over the country, and here in Oregon, I wouldn't say that it is "pervasive" here by any stretch of the imagination...at least in Albany/Corvallis. Does it exist, yes. Is it part of my daily life (as the father of 2 young daughters)...absolutely not.

Dave

if you want to see what eastern oregon looks like rent a video called "paint your wagon" it was shot in eastern oregon about a half hour from union, oregon. in the eagle cap.we get rain about 2 times a month in spring and summer and snow and cold weather from oct-nov till april-june and the humidity is on the low side.i take my dogs to the woods every morning and we have elk, deer, pronghorn, moose, wolfs, bear, coyotes and every kind or water fowel, bald eagles, golden eagles, falcons, hawks, cougars some times come into town, not small ones like in southern cal they look more like african female lions.that is why i always carry a fire arm in the woods as a real good noise maker to back off the coyotes so they wont get a chance to chew on my dogs.

Thank you for all of your replies. We have decided to check out Vermont, as there is beautiful scenery up there as well, but closer to relatives. We definitely plan on vacationing in Oregon, someday.
