Soory if I offended you Dan....but I think mine was a fair question and given that this is a forum I figured there was room for my curiosity. For all I know half the people here could be tweeking right now. I just know I will be happy with my $200k I have in equity going toward buying a nice home in Oregon.

See you at the Farmers market.

Thumper said in the movie Bambi, “If you can’t say something nice, then don’t say nothing at all.” I had a Oregon teacher in an Oregon School say to us Oregon students, "you can keep you mouth shut and let people wonder if you have your act together, or you can open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Is it to much to ask to talk about something positive about Oregon?

Dan

heeeeyyyy, ive brought up farmers market, cool nature places, and other great stuff bout Oregon..dang it man. sigh. maybe im mute on line. who knows. lol

anyhow, just thought Id let CantWait know that Vets get discounts on state park issues and permits for things like clamming/crabbing/fishing. I dont know bout the property taxes, I believe Ive heard that too, but dont count on me for saying its so.
Meth, like other drugs, ARE here in Oregon. Many lives ARE destroyed, Ive heard of, and even known a few who have fell into those nasty traps. And it is across the board. From the nasty neighbors we had once w/rats and garbage strew everywhere and finally had their kids taken away, to a young professional I knew w/a beautiful family and a terrific job. BUT for every person that does drugs, there are many others that DONT. I for one, have never touched any illegal drug in my life. Im so lame Ive never even done pot. (I did used to smoke though, thats bad, but not illegal eh? and ya, I have an occasional drink too) anyhow, my point, theres an awful lot of people that dont do drugs and are on the warpath against them and those that do. Theres lots of antidrug campaigns in the schools, and even on the billboards/in many workplaces. You can go for weeks at a time w/o seeing anyone that is on drugs (at least they dont LOOK like it! lol) My kids have never seen anyone "tweaking" - of course, i dont let them go into the areas that are obvious problem areas. Use common sense, and you should be fine.
Best of luck to you!!!
Tiffany

Clear2Land, thank you for the rudder, as you know this board is worldwide and we are all representatives of this great state of Oregon.
Before we moved here from CA. The Oregon coast was our summer house, incredible memories of fishing on the Ocean and rivers, going clamming, hunting for seashells, walking the beach and exploring tide pools while the whales and seals swam by, building forts out of driftwood. good times.
These are some of the things I wanted my own children to experience. We just spent a few days on the Oregon coast and it is always a treat.

As to the negatives; there are none, just troubles that need solutions. No matter what area one lives in find some time out of your busy schedule to volunteer, there are tremendous opportunities to help.
Homebuilders just completed a new Headstart playground at the local college campus, last year built a bathroom and snack bar structure at a kids ballpark and we are now starting on a remodel of a homeless youth building, in order to add showers and laundry facilities. If we head off some of the things that cause people to stray into dispair there will be less pressures on society.

Oh and our mountain lakes are awesome.

Meth is everywhere. It's much worse in California it's just more publicized in Oregon. If meth is the only problem Oregonians are complaining about, then you've got a pretty darn good state! My friends told me that Oregonians have really cracked down on the problem and have seen tremendous results but for me personally while I was there I didn't see anybody who looked like they were tweeking and I know what that looks like. I've lived in apartment complexes where the manager was a meth dealer. I don't think you've got much to worry about in Oregon... it seems pretty mellow compared to my area!

Perhaps you should view it (the meth problem) in another way.
A preacher from the midwest moves into a neighborhood with one of the worst crime rates in the nation (Watts, in East L.A.), in order to start a new congregation.
After living there for a couple of weeks, the preacher is stepping out from his apartment, just as an old black man is walking down the sidewalk, past his door.
The old man stops with an incredulous look on his face. He is shocked to see the only white person for miles, apparently oblivious to where he is.
The old man approaches the man of the cloth, and asks "Don't you know where your at? Theres not one good soul within twenty miles of where we're standing. People will shoot you from their cars, without giving it a second thought!".
The preacher replied "That's funny... I've lived here for three weeks and I haven't met a single bad person, yet."
The moral of the story is:
No matter where you go, you can find whatever you are looking for...
GOOD, or BAD.
I've lived in Eugene for years, and have yet to meet a bad person.

Perhaps it's the fact that I am not so highly educated that may have made my attempt at seeking info from you all seem as if I was looking for something negative. The sad fact is that I was recently informed that someone I used to care about who was born and raised and currently living in Oregon got wrapped up in meth and is now in prison for it and since I no longer have direct contact with these relatives I thought I might be able to get some info here. Please re-read my original post...you know ...the one that mentions that I LOVE OREGON. Perhaps I love it more so than some of your own do...after all it was Oregon web sites that led me think there was a higher than average illegal drug use problem there in the first place. When I went online to searching for specific information about this relative's case Google led me to to TONS of websites where the Oregon press spoke of this Meth epidemic. Hey guys...I am now living in California and I know for a fact how durg infested this state is. And yes I know that drugs are everywhere. No where in any of my posts did I ever say anything negative about your state. After all my screen name is CANTWAIT2bthere for a reason.

Again...as I said to Dan earlier I am sorry for having offended anyone with my post. I spent a good long time last night going through many of the past forums and have gleaned alot of good information. Relocating to a new state and starting on a new phase of our lives is exciting. My husband could choose anywhere to retire and move his family. He is a good man and after serving his country for 20 years in the Marine Corps I think he deserves to be somewhere more "kick back" then where we are now. Of course I do not expect to find some perfect Utopia. Just as the hymnist said, "this world is not my home, I am just passing through."

Peace

Cantwait, it is the local media (Oregonian Newspaper) that has made it such a big epidemic here in Oregon, not the actual usage of the drug. It has been here for years as well as everywhere else, it is just our media that has decided to use it to get attention. You can go your entire life here and not be affected by it. Even if you have your garage broken into or your car stereo stolen, it does not mean that it is meth. It could be your teenage neighbor wanting a new stereo or $20 from the local buyer. Get over your meth obsession and just go visit a place if you want to move there. If you are that paranoid, DON'T MOVE HERE!!!!!!

oh come on PDX ...don't throw that at me....I will attempt one last time to apologize PDX for any misunderstanding I have brought to this forum. Why you assume I am paranoid is beyond me. There is no obsession here, just convesation about the topic at hand. Typing in all caps and exclamations points for my family not to move there is not only not neccesarry but petty and juvenile don't you think?. Questions about specific crimes in a forum where people discuss relocation information should not cause someone to be offended. I am sure you are a nice person in real life and now that I think about it I suspect that perhaps the oregon media may be making this into sensational news since that is what sells papers. Here in California drug related crime makes the back page so I wonder if it's hyped up up in Oregon since it's something new and surprising. I keep re-reading my prior posts to see what I could have said that would cause you to respond to me as you have and I can't see anything. Please don't be mad at me.
