i am looking into brookings, lincoln city, oregon, but have not decide yet. i do some research and read some of your forum postings too about good and no good in oregon.

i know that these 2 cities are not too densely population and have a little more retired people compared with the rest of other cities in oregon. i read these two cities are tourism cities too.

i read that lincoln city do not need to charge sales tax? is it true?

also, what is the rules in riding an electrical scooter or a gas scooter around residental area? are they legal in oregon?

There is no state sales tax in Oregon, but Ashland and Yachats each charge 5% on prepared food and non-alcoholic beverages. My guess is that as cities struggle with less revenue, we might see more of them opting for a local tax.

Some types of scooters are legal in Oregon - here is a link with some information. The statute that governs scooters starts at section 814.510 if you want all of the details.

Brookings and Lincoln City have very different "feels" about them so you'll want to decide what kind of atmosphere you're looking for. The median age for both places is about 42, but I think Lincoln City feels more touristy, plus it has a casino on the north end, which I don't find very attractive. The Oregon coast doesn't really have four seasons. It's rainy or its sunny; it's cool or it's warm. Brookings gets slightly less precipitation and is generally warmer than the rest of the Oregon coast, but it rains sometimes in the summer and gets foggy in the winter just like everywhere else. Lincoln City has an advantage for those who want to go to a city for an occassional change, being just two hours from Portland and one from Salem.

Well,

I just drove the entire coast with my family and I would have to say Brookings was our favorite beach town. I agree with Bendite it that these two towns have very different vibes/feels. Before you move I would recommend visiting each one for yourself.

I see this is your first post here on CD. And I would say that this can be a very valuable place for info. I would also recommend providing more info in your questions so that folks can get a better idea of what you are looking for.

* What will you do for work?
* Are you wanting to be near a larger city?
* What is the main thing you are looking for in your new area beyond scooter-ability?
* Do you care about the age of the folks in your area?
* How about hobbies, interests, etc...?
