California is an extremely diverse place. It makes me laugh to see Oregonians who pride themselves on their ability to "embrace diversity" bash California based on a few ignorant stereotypes.

Why are you quoting a Montanan as being an Oregonian? Dang, it! I knew he'd come back to haunt us- !

OK, I just want to share my post from yesterday in a different thread and then I promise I'll leave you all alone. I'm just curious to see what other states are going through and if it's similar to what's going on in MT. I didn't even use the "C" word so you might be proud SeeBee!
Curious on you folks' thoughts.
Here's the post.

Don't get me wrong, I love hunting, hiking, camping, fishing, back country flying and exploring myself, I've been doing these things for all or most of my life, as well as a lot of other honest hardworking people have.. I can't think of any of my friends or family that would turn down a chance to take a visitor into the back-country who really want to learn how to do things. I also can't think of a good friend or family member who isn't interested in learning new things to enhance what we all love to do in the back country.
It's the ones that expect a good time and treat others like they are beneath them that really get people going. It's the sue-happy get something for nothing and refuse to take responsibility folks that aggravate me. Who goes out to the mountains to camp and hike and expects a spa and 5 star hotel to be there for all their wants? It's gotten so bad that some are trying to pass legislation for SPECIAL fire protection for the rich and stupid.
The problem is the people that want to experience the back-country without taking any of the responsibility, both for their own health and safety, as well as preservation of the land and all of it's life. People that come from the suburban lifestyle that have always been able to buy everything they want without having to produce any of it themselves. Some of them buy these little ranchettes and then threaten to sue the state because a forest fire ate their poorly placed home. They build on the edge of creeks and rivers for easy fishing access in flood planes and cry for help (like this year) when the run-off fills up their yards and basements.
Another aggravating thing is these guest ranches that keep popping up to CATER to these people to make money!! You want to go elk hunting? cough up $10K and you can buy one from Ted Turner and others and not have to worry about REAL hunters getting in your way. Some of us hunt to actually help feed our families. What's wrong with actually providing something for yourself?
What is really sad? I don't think that a lot of these people even realize what they are doing and how it affects things. I think that many of them have been so spoiled since childhood that they really don't comprehend what things like self responsibility, honor, caution, courtesy, kindness and common sense really are.
Wish I had more positive things to say on the subject, but things like these are why changes in Montana are scary to me. The other is that these are the people that are controlling the pricing of land and services... it's all about #1 with them. Making money money money without care to anything else. We have a REAL problem on our hands, and the current economy shows it. To fix it we all have to start with looking at our own attitudes and what the result of the things WE do is.

Bravo!!! I am a former Californian. I can't stand the Californian mentality of mine is bigger than yours. I have a family with 4 kids ranging from the ages of 5 to 20 and the last thing I want for them is to get all caught up in the Californian way of life. I love where I am now. My kids are adjusting and seem to be happier. The quality of life is calmer, less stressful and down to earth. I am sure that there are people that I will come across that will want me to go back because of the typical stereo type of a California born and raised. I just hope that these people will look past that and see me for who I am. I am a very down to earth person who's last ambition is life is to be better than those around me. I work hard for what I have. I struggle like anyone else does to get from payday to payday and provide for my family. No one is better than I am and no one is less than I am. I tend to find that some...not all...people just tend to be more of an ASS then others and that is something that they have to live with. I choose not to make their issues my issues. I have enough on my plate then to have to worry about Joe Blow down the street.

Californians have more money and education than Oregonians......two ingredients for more eccentric people..............Oregon would be nothing without California
And god bless California for allowing equal marriage rights!!!

eric351982, I have never seen you write any helpful posts here in the Oregon forum. Theyre all down on Oregon and those who chose to live here, and glorifying California. Dont you realize you are promoting your own prejudiced views? You want equal gay rights and acceptance, but then turn around and lump an entire state of people in negative lights, simply for where they chose to live. Thats just not right IMO. You have no idea who I am, how I was raised, or what my income level is, yet you instantly assume that the poorest and least educated soul in California has more money and education than I? Why?
and this...
" Oregonians remind me of Obama supporters.....completely absorbed in themselves with no thought of people from different places or beliefs"
Please do not lump everyone into one prejudiced, negative group here again w/o knowing truth. Do you know of my family, who host different exchange students throughout the year, every year so these kids can get a chance to experience a different place in this world and kind of living? Or the Churches that Ive been to whos congregations get together for fun times even though they are of two totally different beliefs? How bout the beautiful and well run bed and breakfast here in my little town that caters to gay couples, not straight ones? Been there, met them?
Please stop putting all people of a state in the same lousy pile. There are plenty of well educated, friendly, open people here in Oregon that try very hard to be good people in this life.
Tiffany
