Desray, I think you will find Oregon to be much like Christchurch/Canterbury in terms of temperatures but it may be a little rainier in Oregon in the winter. If you are interested, I have friends who live in Fairlie who spend half the year in NZ and half the year in Oregon near where you are looking at moving. You may want to contact them and get some info on their views of what it is like for a kiwi in America. Oh, he is kiwi and she is American and they stay on her parent's farm when they come here in the summers. If you send me a PM I can send you their email address. Good luck to you. I love New Zealand and was just there in your area in November. In fact i was seeing Kevin and his wife on this trip.

desray is on a distinguished road
Thank you to everyone who has contributed, it is so exciting to be moving to a new country.

The weather here has been a mixed bag, pretty good for winter though. Yesterday the Nor Wester came up - thats a warm wind around here, although it blows pretty strong. Last night it absolutely poured down, so the little stream that runs through our property is full.

We are presently packing and finishing off last minute jobs. Isn't it funny how a move can make you get onto things that you've held off doing. We have the tiler in laying tiles in our dining area. At least we will get to admire them for three weeks before we move. Hopefully we will find out today whether our house has tenants for the next year at least, which is a weight off ones mind.

When we look at the Gazette Times (thanks to jjpop for the link) some of them say yard care - what does yard care include? also 'hookups' - please enlighten us. Are they already connected, you just have to pay for them? Would this save us time, or should we disregard this factor?

Well if you're referring to washer and dryer hookups, it means the water faucets and electrical outlets are there but you supply the washer and dryer. Yard care I guess means either you have to mow the lawn and water, etc. or it's provided in your agreement.
